The Opportunity:

WSP is currently looking for a Risk Management Specialist to join our Rail & Transit Group, located at our Calgary.  Reporting to the Program Manager, this role is responsible for applying and maintaining risk management processes and systems in accordance with established procedures.  The Risk Management Specialist is responsible for providing planned, systematic project risk management expertise, support and oversight to ensure that risks are managed effectively to support projects being delivered in a timely, safe, cost effective manner, with the required level of quality

As a member of the Transportation Systems team, you will be given opportunities to use your transferrable skills to define processes, create execution plans, mentor the junior team members, and be the technical lead for multiple projects. You will be supported by management to develop work plans and professional skills to become a strong leader in the consulting environment.

A day in the life:

  • Facilitate workshops and risk meetings with project staff for risk identification, assessment, prioritization and development /review of risk management response strategies, monitoring and control of risks;
  • Collaborating closely with risk owners and project teams to assist in the development, assessment and monitoring of response plans;
  • Developing, establishing and maintaining project risk registers in the risk database and document management system;
  • Assisting to communicate, mentor and advise on policy, standards, practices and processes for risk management to facilitate a consistent, compliant risk management approach across projects/programs;
  • Establishing, reviewing and maintaining program risk registers to identify and quantify risks and their potential impact so they are managed effectively and consistently and provide updates to PMs;
  • Compiling, analyzing and reporting on risk data, program wide issues and critical interdependencies between projects and between internal and external stakeholders;
  • Facilitating workshops and interviews with staff for risk identification, assessment, prioritization and development/reviews of risk response strategies, and monitoring risks;
  • Developing and performing QCRA modelling at project levels and establishing levels of confidence for specific outcomes and cost impact;
  • Regularly reviewing/updating risk response plans and re-running the risk models as needed;
  • Establishing cost estimates, project schedules and identifying time-dependent cost analysis;
  • Compiling information and creating quarterly reports for PMs;
  • Participate in the development of risk management procedures and work instructions;
  • Conduct risk awareness training and educational sessions for project teams, risk owners, clients and stakeholders;
  • Other duties as required

 

What you'll bring to WSP ...

  • Must have a relevant degree in engineering related disciplines and have or acquire PMP and PMI-RMP professional certifications or the equivalent;
  • 10+ years of directly related experience in a risk management function in project management, construction and engineering environment.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or other relevant professional designation (e.g. C.E.T.) in the Province of Ontario is an asset;
  • Extensive experience facilitating risk workshops;
  • Extensive experience with construction methods and practices and the project management environment;
  • Extensive experience in the assessment, analysis, management, mitigation and oversight of risks that would be associated with the project management and construction projects;
  • Excellent understanding of scheduling and estimating; including demonstrated experience establishing cost estimates, project schedules and identifying time-dependent cost.
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of Monte Carlo risk analysis software applications at project and program levels;
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Outlook).
