Working at BlackBerry’s headquarters in Waterloo, ON, the Revenue Accounting Manager will join a team of dynamic and experienced finance professionals on the Company’s revenue accounting team. Reporting to the Director, Financial Reporting, the position will oversee BlackBerry’s revenue recognition processes and support various company initiatives, including fiscal period closing operations. Critical to this role will be business partnering across various organizations within BlackBerry such as Sales, FP&A, Legal, IT, Professional Services, and others, and will have direct exposure to the senior leadership team and is integral to the Company’s controller group.
Specific Accountabilities:
Oversee the revenue accounting close, including journal entry and system deal review and ensure a high degree of quality, timeliness, and accuracy
Ensure compliance with multiple-performance obligation accounting, standalone selling price establishment, and contract modification accounting in accordance with US GAAP and internal policies
Collaborate with the FP&A department to support monthly and quarterly reporting / flux analyses for multiple revenue streams
Assist with execution of revenue system integrations including product mappings, user acceptance testing and data migration when needed
Serve as the finance organization’s subject matter expert on revenue accounting and collaborate with Sales, FP&A, Billing, Accounts Receivable, Legal, IT, and Professional Services relative to contract negotiations and new product offerings to provide guidance on technical accounting, policies, and processes
Prepare revenue disclosures for external financial reporting and assist in ensuring compliance with SEC and GAAP reporting requirements
Act as a technical resource for others on the revenue accounting team Lead the revenue accounting team
Serve as an additional technical accounting resource within the controller organization, expanding your accounting knowledge and experience by assisting the Director, Financial Reporting with other non-revenue accounting matters as required
Work closely with the Company’s external auditors on revenue recognition and related controls and manage interim and annual audit requirements
Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
Qualifications/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related major is required
Canadian or United States CPA designation is required
3+ years of revenue recognition accounting experience under ASC 606/IFRS15 is required, with an excellent understanding of how the GAAP applies to software licensing
Previous experience working within assurance for a major accounting firm is beneficial
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical revenue issues in a business-like, non-technical manner to other teams internally
The ability to think strategically and effectively work across functions to resolve complex business problems
Proficiency in Microsoft EXCEL and systems experience with Salesforce and the Advanced Revenue Module of NetSuite
