Home Hardware has an exciting opportunity available for a Retail Inventory Control Specialist to join our Dealer Finance team. Reporting to the Manager, FP&A, you will be responsible for visiting our Home stores throughout Western Canada to assess inventory levels and controls, optimize policies and procedures, and provide direction to our Dealer-Owners.
This role also supports Dealer-owners in the Dealer Performance Program, which aims at helping Dealer-owners optimize their business. If you are solution focused with a keen attention to detail, and have a background in finance, accounting, or inventory analysis, we would love to hear from you!
Please note this role requires extensive travel around Ontario and Western Canada (but could see infrequent travel to other provinces depending on business needs).

What you’ll do:
- Supervise inventory counts in Home stores throughout Western Canada. This includes helping the Dealer-owner prepare the store and yard with the layout of stock tags, assisting with preparing the inventory file when third-party software is used.
- Ensure the accuracy of all counts are checked, variances are reconciled, and items not counted are identified and adjusted properly.
- Work with locations that need assistance with inventory management. Coordination with the Operations Department is undertaken to ensure that problem areas receive both appropriate and consistent attention.
- Work with stakeholders to coordinate efforts based on what additional support can be provided to specific Home stores.
- Assist the Operations Department to implement and maintain an accurate and consistent approach to inventory cycle counting. Providing reports on the success achieved by each location.
- Assist when arbitration is needed involving stock count procedures and valuation between two parties.
- Assist with store closures, in the form of coordinating the stock count and the possible disbursement of inventory.
- Communicates Third Party Software Suppliers with any comments or concerns that are passed on by Dealers dealing with problems within these systems or concerning how systems can be improved to make the stock taking process more efficient.
- College Diploma or Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Management or equivalent experience in the field.
- Three to five years’ experience in an operations, finance or accounting focused role, with a strong focus on inventory control and analysis.
- Understanding of hardware and building material products would be beneficial to the role.
- Advanced knowledge of Point-Of-Sale systems and Excel.
- Experience in completing an accurate inventory count and inventory analysis.
- Excellent negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate and provide recommendations in a professional and respectful manner.
- Ability to work weekends and willing to travel extensively throughout Canada (specifically Ontario and Western Canada).
