UX/UI Design Intern

The Product Design Group, within the Digital Products and Platforms team at Interac looking for a UX/UI Design Intern with passion, and a strong interest in developing and refining the experiences for the next generation of Interac Products
This Product Design Group within Interac works directly with our Product Owners, Product Engineers, Core Development, Brand and Marketing teams to develop and deliver new Payment and Identity experiences for the Canadian Market. 

What You’ll Get To Do?   

  • Contribute your design talents and creativity on a daily basis to Products and Services that are used by Canadians ever day 

  • You’ll work with the Design team to understand our newest products and capabilities, and help create the User Experience, and User Interfaces 

  • Design and produce user interfaces and interaction design specifications for delivery by our development and integration teams

  • Participate in peer reviews of design work to evaluate design techniques and overall success in meeting the compelling user experience objectives

  • Take part in user-centered design methods including user research & synthesis, exploration, storytelling, detailed design, journey mapping and prototyping

  • Leverage existing, and contribute to new products design systems, with an eye toward interoperability, accessibility standards compliance, and brand harmony 

You're Great At....

  • Taking business and stakeholder needs and requirements and translating them into of design executions in Figma

  • Design Thinking: Ability to understand and empathize with user/stakeholder needs, ideate and prototype solutions, communicate the rationale behind your design decisions, and being open to iterating based on useful feedback

  • Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with design team members, internal and external stakeholders, and the ability to confidently present design concepts, solution.

  • Visual Design: High proficiency with Figma as you will create visually appealing, best-in-class, and engaging user interfaces and designs on an ongoing basis

Who Are You?

  • Working towards a Bachelor of Design or equivalent in a design-related field

  • High proficiency in Figma, and an understanding and familiarity with tools like Miro & Jira

  • Existing design portfolio, demonstrating wide-range of your talents and capabilities –from responsive web design to mobile application - and beyond

  • Strong UI skills with the ability to create low to high fidelity to pixel-perfect designs based on best possible UX for various potential stakeholder

  • You have a passion for, and understand, current UX and UI design best practices

  • You have knowledge of front-end frameworks such as Bootstrap, Material UI, etc.

  • Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams and communications with various partners (Technical and non-technical)

  • You love creating useful Mobile apps or compelling web experiences

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, team-based environment

  • Must be eligible to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a Full Time Capacity

Must Have Skills:

  • Proven, High Proficiency with Figma

  • Comfortable using tools like JIRA and Miro

  • Ability to complete various types of design work both collaboratively and independently

  • Strong time management and prioritization skills, along with strong verbal/written skills 

  • Create and maintain design systems and guidelines that are consistent and coherent

Nice To Have Skills:

  • Understanding of accessibility guidelines and best practices

  • Motion graphics and micro-animations

  • Experience working directly with both internal and external developers, project managers, and product owners

  • Experience with User Testing and A/B Testing

PLEASE NOTE: to be eligible for Interac internship roles, the candidate must be currently enrolled in a post secondary academic institution.
