Position Overview
Janssen Inc. is looking to fill a one-year contract Real World Evidence (RWE) Manager role in the Government Affairs and Market Access department.  This position is located in Toronto, ON.
The Real World Evidence Manager will work closely with the Director, Real World Evidence on key strategic RWE initiatives that will include 1) Building a Canadian RWE framework that captures best practices for planning and executing RWE initiatives that will optimize outcomes to inform decision making with payers and providers; 2) Building strategic partnerships with external organizations to bring innovative health solutions to the market and 3) Shaping a national RWE policy that will optimize the use of RWE for healthcare decision-making in Canada.  The position will partner closely with key Access business partners such as Medical Affairs and Sales and Marketing as well as with our global Janssen stakeholders such as HECOR, Epidemiology, RWE and Clinical Operations. Additional key partners will include Strategic Customer Group (SCG), Communications, Regulatory, Legal, HCC, Privacy, Procurement, Finance and potentially others.
The ACCESS team is focused on two key responsibilities:  working in close partnership with public and private payers to provide them with appropriate clinical data, pricing and partnership opportunities to support drug funding and patient access; and, data generation through clinical and health economic studies, to facilitate medication access through payers and adoption by prescribers.

The Real World Evidence Intern
  • Leads, manages, and delivers RWE projects with cross-functional business partners and external partners and stakeholders
  • Captures RWE best practices for planning and executing RWE initiatives that will optimize outcomes to inform decision making with payers and providers/clinicians. 
  • Develop deep expertise of key Canadian data sources and general knowledge of other global data sources (internal and external)
  • Develops an understanding of all regulations and process for accessing key public and private data sources
  • Identifies opportunities to use RWE to improve access and shape process and national policy throughout the reimbursement lifecycle
  • Identifies partnerships and opportunities to advance the RWE strategy
  • Works with the RWE Director on communication of strategy and plans for RWE studies
  • Works with the RWE Director on leading engagement with key external stakeholders (government, data organizations, disease organizations, patient advocacy groups, clinical investigators, and technical professionals such as health economists, statisticians, epidemiologists)
  • Identifies issues and leads contingency planning.
  • Leads problem-solving and provides decision-making tools and techniques to make RWE studies successful.
  • Contributes to building new RWE capabilities to Janssen Canada, particularly related to Randomized Pragmatic Trials, but also to other RWE-related activities.
  • Provides support with budgets, contracts, vendor management, publications, and document management


  • Masters/PhD degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, public administration, health economics, or a relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years total experience required.
  • Experience with real world evidence projects desirable, including working with electronic health records/external databases.  Deep understanding of external public data sources highly preferred.
  • Experience working in or collaborating with healthcare delivery systems, data provider organizations and/or payer environment highly preferred.
  • Proven track record in cross-functional team leadership required.
  • Flexible self-starter with excellent networking and team building capabilities.
  • Ability to balance multiple and complex tasks, and effectively perform in a matrixed environment.
  • Approximately 10% travel (domestic & international) required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel required.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and healthcare compliance guidelines/policies desired.
  • Demonstration of competencies for creativity, problem-solving, and innovative solutions desired.
