Job Summary
The selected consultant or individual will act as a representative for Teck Coal Limited (TCL) and will be responsible for ensuring that TCL’s medium (2030) and long-term (2050) power requirements are met. This includes ensuring that required BC Hydro transmission infrastructure is delivered efficiently alongside creating functional interim infrastructure to meet TCL’s demand forecast.
This role will be instrumental to supporting Teck Coal's independent activities, interim activities as well as being the liaison to BC Hydro, and ensuring a thorough integration of all activities.
Responsibilities

Provide project management to the overall Elk Valley Grid Expansion project including planning, scheduling, fiscal management, risk management, communication, and reporting
Manage progress and outcomes of all BC Hydro and independent studies and activities, including but not limited to: BC Hydro System Impact, Feasibility and Facilities studies, as well as independent scoping and feasibility studies
Lead the development of a BC Hydro negotiation strategy, plan, and execution of the plan
Develop an integrated project plan that incorporates all internal and external activities including technical and non-technical into a realistic accelerated schedule
Develop and implement a strategy to meet interim Elk Valley load requirements prior to commissioning of a new BC Hydro transmission line
Prepare and deliver project updates to facilitate senior management and board level decision making
Participate in the preparation, evaluation, recommendation, and award of contracts, including preparation of scopes of work, requests for information / proposal, schedules, cost estimates and qualified bidder lists
Oversee field work to ensure safe work practices and work performed meets specified requirements, including detailing observations and deficiencies and ensuring appropriate action is taken
Provide contractor management and oversight for external consultants or vendors
Prepare and maintain project documentation: charters, appropriation requests, organization charts, schedule, project reports, risk register, etc
Qualifications
Minimum 10 years’ experience delivering high voltage transmission infrastructure or other large scale electrical projects
Engineering or Science degree in electrical or other related designations with a preference for a certified professional electrical engineer registered in British Columbia or Alberta
PMP (Project Management Professional) or other project certifications are an asset
Driven individual that develops plans that are both strategic and realistic
Excellent interpersonal skills; extensive experience with developing and maintaining relationships with a wide range of internal and external groups
Experience negotiating large scale agreements with public utilities is an asset
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive communication
Ability to work in Canada and travel as required
