Our St. John’s office is seeking an experienced Project Architect / Designer with building design, documentation, and project management skills to join their multidisciplinary team.
Your Key Responsibilities
As the successful candidate, you will contribute to multidisciplinary project teams on commercial, civic, healthcare and education sector projects. You will develop designs and contract documents, provide contract administration services while sustaining and building client relationships. You will work as a Project Architect / Design Lead on concurrent assignments while supporting the team and directing junior staff. You will coordinate work across offices and support other offices in completing their work. Travel to client and project sites will be regular at times, and overnight travel may be required. Our immediate workload includes government and workplace projects.
Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Design and Technical Excellence:
- Provide design of institutional, commercial, civic, and education sector buildings
- Participate in or lead the preparation of deliverables at all project phases
- Support Stantec policies on project delivery, quality control, and safety
- Participate in the continued development of the architectural in-house expertise and methodologies
- Regularly seek continuing education opportunities to increase knowledge base
Communications:
- Maintain client relationships and develop new client relationships
- Facilitate and hold team and client meetings
- Lead and inform the Project Team of changes and updates
- Effectively communicate relevant project information to business practice managers
- Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion
- Understand how to communicate difficult/sensitive information
Leadership:
- Aid in team development by aligning project tasks with capabilities and career interests
- Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes constructive suggestions for change
- Remains engaged and knowledgeable regarding emerging industry practices
- Complies with and helps to enforce Stantec policies and procedures
- Actively supports Stantec’s Safer Together and Safety programs

Client Management:
- Manage day-to-day client interaction, evaluate, and manage client expectations
- Support and maintain lasting relationships with clients
- Communicate effectively with clients to identify needs, evaluate alternative solutions, and deliver value added services
- Build a knowledge base of each client’s business, organization, and objectives
Business Development:
- Identify additional services opportunities for all Stantec disciplines as they relate to a specific project, program, or client.
- Work with the other key staff on institutional, healthcare, education, and commercial building design opportunities
- Engage in client contact, proposal preparation and preparation of and participation in client interviews
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Support all aspects of the project development cycle from inception through to completion including client relations, proposal development and project delivery
- Demonstrate ability to lead and coordinate building systems with multi-discipline teams
- Ability to develop and present design concepts, as well as construction details
- Familiarity and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Sketchup, Lumion and Autodesk CAD / Revit BIM platforms with excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A high level of organizational skills with a detail-oriented focus and a strong work ethic
- Ability to work efficiently and be flexible to change
- Be self-managed, demonstrate initiative and work independently as required
Education and Experience
Professional degree in architecture. Ideally, a registered architect in Atlantic Canada, preferably NLAA, or holding professional degree and actively pursuing licensure
