Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chair of the School of Biological Sciences and Applied Chemistry the professor is responsible for developing, preparing, and delivering courses within the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering Technology (FASET) ensuring an effective and compelling learning environment for students.
Program Area/Level:
Responsible for teaching courses within the diploma, certificate, Graduate Certificates (Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs and Quality Operations or Clinical Research and Quality), degree level and other courses, seminars or training as appropriate.
Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the senior academic officer of the College or designate, the Professor is responsible for:
Teaching:
- Carrying out regularly scheduled instruction, which may include tutoring and academic counselling of students.
- Ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques.
- Providing a learning environment which makes effective use of available resources, work experience and field trips.
- Evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the student's work within assigned courses.
- Incorporating active learning strategies in online, hybrid and in-person classes.
- Implementing appropriate educational technology and tools in online hybrid and in-person classes.
Course and Curriculum Development:
- Defining course objectives, and evaluating and validating these objectives.
- Consulting with program and course directors and other faculty members, advisory committees, accrediting agencies, potential employers and students.
- Specifying or approving learning approaches, necessary resources, etc.
- Developing individualized instruction and multi-media presentations where applicable.
- Selecting or approving textbooks and learning materials.
- Ensuring an equitable and accessible learning community on online, hybrid and in-person classes.
- Designing formative and summative assessments (alternative and authentic) for online and in-person classes.
Academic Leadership:
- Providing guidance to Instructors relative to the Instructors' teaching assignments.
- Participating in the work of curriculum and other consultative committees as requested.
- Participating in industry, or community-partnered, Applied Research initiatives to enhance student learning with inter-disciplinary and experiential learning opportunities.
Qualifications:
Education
- Minimum completed bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Health Sciences or relevant field of study. If in a relevant field, please state how it is relevant.
- RA or QA certification is preferred
Experience
- Minimum four (4) years of industry experience in regulatory affairs, quality assurance or a related field is required.
- Minimum two (2) years of teaching experience in post-secondary is required.
Skills
- Strong relationships with industry contacts and network connections is an asset.
- Demonstrated skills to deliver online and hybrid teaching.
- Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills is required and demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team.
