We are hiring up to four (4) Full-Time Permanent Power Electrician 1 positions in Edmonton, AB; three (3) positions in the Operations Apparatus team and one (1) position in the Operations Protection/SCADA team. This opportunity is open to internal and external applications.
As the Power Electrician 1, you work with a variety of equipment such as protective relays, breakers, disconnects, switchgear, transformers and other related substation equipment to ensure proper operation. You will work alongside Apparatus or Protection/SCADA team members and report directly to the Operations Manager.
What you’d be responsible for
- Maintaining tools and equipment.
- Compiling reports.
- Keeping accurate records.
- Reading schematics and diagrams.
- Performing operational checks and acceptance tests.
- Conducting substation switching.
- Installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing protective relays.
- Installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, inspecting, maintaining and repairing high voltage apparatus.
- Supervising or working alongside contractors. May be required to accept contractor work to verify quality.
- Assisting with other substation related duties as required.
What’s required to be successful
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Journeyman Power Systems Electrician certificate
- Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma considered an asset
- 3+ years of recent power substations related experience as a certified journeyman Power System Electrician
- Protection & Control experience is considered an asset
- Experience testing substation apparatus, handling and processing SF6 and CF4 gas, and power transformer oil processing is considered an asset
- Knowledge and experience working with medium and high voltage substation equipment
- Willing and able to work with energized high voltage equipment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e. Teams, Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit, which requires a valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License
- Limited to 6 demerits or less at date of hire (prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file)
- A Driver Abstract (5 year commercial type) will be required
- Clearance on background check requirements related to ARS CIP
- Ability to withstand strenuous physical activity inherent to the work performed, as well as to function effectively outside under a variety of weather conditions and through all seasons
- Please note that due to the nature of this position you will be required to wear a ½ mask respirator for extended periods on a daily basis
