Job Summary
Provide professional planning advice and recommendations to all levels of City staff, levels of government, affected agencies and departments, the public and all other stakeholders, tribunals and courts to guide the growth and development of the City of Mississauga.
The City is looking to fill up to 4 Planner positions, each focused on one of the following areas:
- Planner, Zoning
- Planner, Official Plan
- Planner, Growth Management
- Planner, Planning Programs (area-specific land use studies and legislative updates)
Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead special studies on land use, zoning regulations and other development matters
• Prepare and review official plan policies, official plan amendments, and zoning by-law amendments
• Research, analyze, monitor and report on planning-related data, trends, legislation and government/agency initiatives
• Lead population, housing, and employment-related model updates in collaboration with other
planning staff and consultants
• Develop policy frameworks and documents to implement Provincial and Regional polices and plans
• Develop and conduct effective consultations with other professionals, the public and interest groups
• Research, prepare and present reports on policy matters to City Council and Committees of Council
• Represent the City Planning Strategies Division on inter-department and inter-agency projects
• Testify before the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) as an Expert Witness
• Write reports, summaries, fact sheets, briefing notes, memoranda, web and other media content to communicate information
• Liaise with applicants, Councillors, City staff and other parties
• Perform other related duties as may be assigned
Skills and Qualifications
• University Degreen in Urban Planning or related discipline with a minimum of three years policy and/or development planning experience
• Membership or eligibility for membership in Ontario Planners Institute and Canadian Institute of Planners is preferred
• Knowledge of provincial planning legislation, policies and plans
• Highly developed problem solving, research, analytical, report writing, communication, organization and project management skills are required
• Knowledge of planning trends, market conditions and forecasting
• Experience with data analytical software (Excel, MS Power BI) and ESRI ArcGIS (Pro, ArcMap, ArcGIS Online, Portal) is an asset
• Demonstrated ability to achieve project objectives in a timely manner
• Must have the ability to travel and provide own transportation and be comfortable working flexible hours
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 86,858.00 - $ 115,812.00
