Bring your proven mechanical aptitude to our dynamic team and operate out of our Firebag, Alberta location supporting the operations and maintenance teams by safely maintaining and repairing our operating and rotating equipment to ensure optimum reliability and availability of our assets.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Show dedication and support to our Journey to Zero safety culture and programs 
  • Safely execute running repairs on our equipment, including troubleshooting hydraulic systems, automated pumps, pipeline valves, and rotating equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance as per planned maintenance programs on all equipment
  • Install and commission new equipment on construction projects
  • Actively participate in post-event failure analysis and root cause discussions to develop creative solutions to improve safety and reliability
  • Work with diverse groups of contractors and crews to supervise their performing related repairs and installation work
  • Attend safety / operational meetings as well as participate in oil spill and emergency response exercises
  • Analyze mechanical vibration issues in addition to completion of hot and cold alignments

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of post-apprenticeship experience as a mechanic, millwright or similar trade
  • Proficient knowledge and skills in pipeline transportation, mechanical and rotating equipment, valves and actuators, motors, pumps and seal changes
  • A deep understanding of valves, actuators, rotating equipment and troubleshooting
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • A continuous improvement attitude and continually seek greater knowledge about the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace, in order to understand not just what you do but why you do it
  • Proficient with computers and familiarity with MS Office software
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Alignment with our values

Preference for:

  • A valid Alberta Journeyperson Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Certificate; attach your Journeyperson / Red Seal ticket with your application to be considered
  • Valve technician experience and SAP knowledge

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • This is a camp-based position and you will work out of our Firebag location, which is our largest in situ operation and one of the largest in the world (and located 120 km northeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta).  We have hubs in Calgary and Edmonton for your fly-in fly-out arrangements
  • The shift schedule is a seven days on / seven days off rotation
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • You’ll need to be flexible to work overtime when required and able to work with minimal supervision
  • You will be need to perform some heavy lifting, work from heights with the capability of performing in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
