Dalhousie University is a leading academic and research institution in Atlantic Canada. PERU comprises three full-time PhD-trained faulty members. Both departments have an active cadre of PhD-trained and clinical researchers. Through close ties with the Reproductive Care Program of Nova Scotia and Health Data Nova Scotia, scientists affiliated with PERU will have access to the population-based provincial perinatal and administrative health databases and other clinical and administrative data sources. Dalhousie University also houses the Atlantic Research Data Centre. The successful candidate will also be supported by IWK Health Research Services. The environment is highly favourable for conducting epidemiologic research.
The successful candidate is expected to pursue an active research program focused on pediatric and/or perinatal epidemiology. They should have a demonstrated ability to independently conduct research in their field and have the potential to attain regional and national funding to support that research. They will also engage in collaborative research projects with faculty in the Dalhousie academic community. The position requires active and committed involvement in teaching residents, fellows, and medical students. The successful candidate will be encouraged to apply for a cross-appointment with the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology or another graduate degree program, which will provide the opportunity for graduate student supervision, teaching, and collaboration.
The candidate’s academic qualifications must include a PhD degree in Epidemiology or a related area. Preference will be given to candidates with experience and a proposed program of research in population health research, infectious disease epidemiology, clinical research, or health policy evaluation. Experience in pediatric or perinatal health research, as well as expertise using large databases, will be considered a strong asset.
