The Payroll Associate is responsible for the accurate and timely entry of newly hired Part-Time Support and Student employees, along with Part-Time, Partial-Load, Sessional and Faculty of Continuing and Professional Studies (FCAPS) instructors for an assigned set of employees.  In addition, the Associate is responsible for keying all Academic Non-Teaching, special payments and other non-employee payments.  

What You’ll be Doing

  • Using PeopleSoft (PS) HRIS software for accurate and timely entry of payroll related information; Creating, maintaining, and adapting employee records for all employee and non-employee payments;
  • Reviewing and analysing documentation provided by internal stakeholders to ensure completeness, compliance and accuracy; 
  • Providing guidance to timekeepers on the purpose and proper completion of the new hire paperwork;
  • Reconciling, validating and remitting assigned deductions; 
  • Analyzing paperwork and decentralized data input to ensure completeness, compliance and accuracy against the College’s Collective Agreements, internal policies and/or the ESA legislated minimum standards.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Your excellent oral and written communication skills allow you to provide exceptional customer service and develop strong relationships 

You are professional with the ability to maintain confidentiality and thrive in a fast-paced team environment.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications: 

  • 2-year diploma in human resources, finance, accounting or related filed of study along with a minimum of 3 years of payroll processing experience on an in-house computerized HRIS 
  • Must be well versed in the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience using Macros is considered an asset. 
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft Time & Labour module is preferred. 
  • Thorough and current knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency regulations pertaining to payroll 
  • Experience in interpreting collective agreements is preferred. Knowledge and experience with accounting principles, mathematical calculations, and general ledger cost accounting and distributions is an asset. 
  • PCP designation from the Canadian Payroll Association is an asset
