The part-time Print Production Assistant provides operational support for the regular and recurring afternoon/early evening production of print orders in the Algonquin College Print Shop. Under the direction of the Manager, Print Services and working with the Print Shop Production Coordinator, the Print Production Assistant operates paper folding, cutting, slitting, scoring, perforating, laminating, drilling and binding equipment.
The Print Production Assistant will retrieve and process files from the College Web-to-Print application, prepare files for print production utilizing Adobe CS applications and specialized pre-press editing, workflow and page imposition tools. The Print Production Assistant will operate black and colour digital printers and wide format print and cut equipment.
The Print Production Assistant will provide assistance in completing print shop orders where hand assembly is required, including wide-format print installations on campus.
The Print Production Assistant provides customer service for retail print customers including students, staff and the general public at the Student Print Shop customer service desk.
The Print Production Assistant will be utilized as back-up during absences due to illness and annual vacation leave.
Required qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent;
Minimum five (5) years experience with the following;
Proficiency in the operation of small bindery finishing equipment and bindery handwork. The operation of perfect binding equipment is an asset.
Experience in the operation of high volume black and colour copiers for on-demand, short-run printing within an in-plant, quick copy or commercial print service provider.
Print customer service experience within an in-plant, quick copy or commercial print service provider.
Expertise in preparing, editing and creating digital documents for print production using Adobe Creative Suite, PDF, and other pre-press productivity software for PDF editing and imposition.
Wide-format print production and finishing is an asset.
Anticipated Weekly Schedule:
Monday to Thursday 12:00pm - 5:00pm
Friday 1:00pm - 5:00pm
