
Part-Time Academic (PSYO/NESC 3264: The Science of Sleep) – Winter 2024

The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for teaching PSYO/NESC 3264, The Science of Sleep, in the Winter 2024 semester (January–April 2024). This class will be offered in a fully online, asynchronous format and the anticipated enrollment is 100 students. The course reviews the history, methods, and results of the scientific study of sleep. Topics include circadian and homeostatic regulation; developmental and cultural impacts; normal and abnormal function of neural and other control mechanisms; effects of sleep loss on performance and health; theories of the functions of sleep.
The responsibilities of the successful applicant will include:
- Developing 12 weeks of content, including lectures, readings, quizzes, exams, and other assessments
- Grading assessments and providing timely feedback to students
- Providing course content (e.g., syllabus, notes, grades) on Brightspace, Dalhousie’s learning management system.
- Providing approximately 2 hours per week for online student consultation, and responding to student emails in a timely manner.
This position reports to the Chair of the Department.
