The Packaging Supervisor (Afternoons) performs all responsibilities necessary to provide oversight to the packaging operations which includes ensuring: operator safety, compliance with applicable company procedures, and maintaining a high level of productivity. In this role you will be responsible to coordinate: set-up and adjustment of packaging equipment, troubleshooting issues and driving timely resolution, coordinating equipment repairs, monitoring staff performance, and acting as a coach and mentor to ensure packaging targets are achieved. You are expected to collect data, analyze, and implement decisions based on the data to drive improvements in quality and productivity. You are able to provide direction and make decisions within the scope of the role and responsibility, coordinating with internal stakeholders as necessary, and escalating for assistance when needed. Safety of the staff reporting to you, and assurance of the quality of the products being manufactured are of the upmost importance to you. You work to regularly identify opportunities for improvement in safety, quality, and productivity, and are able to work collaboratively across the organization to facilitate positive change.
Compliance - Safety & Quality:
You ensure all staff are following the applicable company safety procedures, wearing PPE as mandated by company procedures and SDSs. You look for opportunities to improve or refine work practices to improve the safety of the tasks being completed.
You take action to eliminate and or remedy any identified safety hazards. You promptly stop and provide coaching to correct when unsafe behaviors are observed.
You promptly report any identified procedural or processing deviations or potential quality issues in the workplace as noticed by you or other employees.
Working cooperatively with the Plant Quality team, you ensure adherence to all company procedures, and regulatory guidances. You support internal and external audits and work cooperatively to resolve any identified areas for improvement. You monitor and follow-up to ensure timely completion all commitments.
You take ownership to ensure all tasks being completed by your reporting staff are completed in a compliant and safe manner. You actively engage in discussions with your staff on how to improve safety and quality, taking suggestions from them, and giving them credit for their ideas.
You ensure that all staff are well-informed and well-trained about the materials they are using and the working they are performing.
You monitor staff performance and strive to provide additional training to ensure that staff reporting to you have the opportunity to improve. You ensure that staff are not assigned to complete work for which they have not been fully trained.
You work with internal training team members to ensure proper training is assigned through company systems, and you monitor and follow-up with staff members to ensure their training is completed on-time and is understood. When necessary you partner with training department to create training materials including curricula.
You ensure all applicable SOPs and OJTs accurately describe the procedures and tasks being performed in the Packaging area. You make suggestions for changes/improvements to these documents to improve consistency and quality of their execution. You participate in the regular review of these documents to ensure they accurately describe how the tasks are being executed on the floor. You work with floor staff, SMEs, Engineering, Maintenance, and Plant Quality in making the updates/revisions to the documents.
You ensure all documentation completed by reporting staff is in compliance with company procedures, ensuring GDP practices, reinforcing ALCOA principals.
Process Excellence, Lean, Continuous Improvement, M2E:
You participate in and strive to lead continuous improvement initiatives, such as the JJPS program. You encourage your team members to participate and support these initiatives.
You proactively seek out, evaluate, and prioritize opportunities for continuous improvement and encourage similar behaviors in your team.
You work cooperatively with the Plant Maintenance group to eliminate causes of equipment down-time and improve overall equipment availability.
You are routinely working alongside your staff understanding the challenges they face on a daily basis and act as a champion to eliminate barriers to improve their engagement and productivity.
You take great pride and ownership in promoting a safe, quality-focused working environment, ensuring a high level of performance of your team, and working to support the other production leaders.
You look for and provide opportunities for your staff to grow their skills as a reward for their strong performance. You provide feedback to your staff on how to improve their performance and acknowledge when they have performed well. You take responsibility for the performance and development of your staff, developing quantitative measures to provide objective monitoring and feedback.
You work to support the area and site management. You are willing to take on managerial responsibilities during absences. You are supportive of management during times of change or challenge.
You work cooperatively with staff and leadership throughout the organization to support company initiatives and to facilitate the supply of high quality products to our customers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
You possess a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Science or Engineering discipline.
You have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a regulated GMP manufacturing environment.
Preference will be given if you have previous experience leading a team in a manufacturing environment.
Your strong understanding of GMP regulations and their application to manufacturing is needed.
Proven ability to interact, motivate and lead individuals in a high-throughput manufacturing environment.
Data driven, decision-making ability is a core skill you possess, as is the ability to drive effective technical solutions.
