Posting Description

We are currently looking for an Occupational Hygienist to join our Occupational Health and Safety Services team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in collaboration with the Occupational Health and Safety Services team, managers and employees to create and maintain a safe and healthy workplace. In this role, you will report to the Sr. Manager of Occupational Hygiene and Safety.

Here's What You'll Get To Do

  • Providing advice and support to managers and employees on occupational health and safety issues.
  • Facilitating organizational compliance with occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Developing, implementing, auditing and maintaining occupational health and safety programs, policies and procedures.
  • Developing and/or delivering training and education strategies related to occupational health and safety.
  • Supporting and managing the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees (JOHSC) in their mandate to enhance staff health and safety.
  • Tracking changes in legislation and facilitating organizational due diligence with respect to occupational health and safety.
  • Liaising with external agencies for matters related to occupational health and safety programs.
  • Developing and implementing emergency measures and procedures related to staff health and safety.
  • Providing immediate advice and response in emergency situations (e.g., Code Brown) and rotating on-call responsibilities.
  • Managing strong relationships with key stakeholders and staff within the organization.
  • Providing advice and expertise on designing new and renovated spaces throughout the hospital, applying occupational health and safety legislation, standards and best practices.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Here's What You'll Need

  • A masters degree in occupational health and safety or applied science (master's degree in occupational hygiene is preferred)
  • An undergraduate degree in health sciences, natural sciences or occupational health and safety.
  • Post-graduate certificate or diploma in occupational health and safety is an asset.
  • A master's degree in occupational hygiene is preferred.
  • An in-depth understanding of the principles of occupational hygiene.
  • An in-depth understanding of legislation, standards and guidelines related to occupational health and safety.
  • A strong background in the principles and practices of occupational hygiene monitoring, analysis, and use/calibration of equipment.
  • A strong background in ergonomic assessments and controls.
  • Knowledge of accident causation theory and applied interventions.
  • Health and safety experience, preferably in a health care environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation and collaboration skills
  • Laboratory Safety experience would be an asset.
  • CRSP or CIH/ROH would be an asset.
