North America Hybrid Product Development Lead, Canada
Reporting to the Head of North America Hybrid Product Development, the North America (NA) Hybrid Product Development Lead, Canada provides strategic, technical, and people leadership to the teams developing the seeds & trait product pipelines for canola and early maturity corn products in the U.S. and Canada. This Lead has a core focus on holistic canola and corn product development, including designing and executing field experiments, collecting high-quality phenomic data, and leveraging data science to advance and deploy customer-centric products, all while partnering with functions across the Bayer Crop Science to deliver on commercial priorities.

What you will do:
- Develops and implements people, pipeline, and product strategies to ensure goals and resource needs are met and aligned with needs of North America Breeding and the business.
- Key contributor to North America Product Development strategies and LRP and leader of its execution for the U.S. and Canada pipelines for canola and early maturity corn. The lead ensures that these goals and deliverables are aligned with high level functional goals and corporate objectives to support commercial LRP.
- Supports and aligns breeding global strategy execution across NA and EMEA and works with Product Design to provide product concepts and customer feedback. Work with EMEA team to ensure OSR and canola strategies are aligned.
- Leads technology development and process standardization, adoption of best practices, and implementation of process improvement measures across organization.
- Leads implementation of digital technologies into the region, including leadership of partnerships across teams in Breeding, Product Supply, and Commercial. Key driver of new business model opportunities around tailored solutions, outcome-based pricing, and carbon neutrality.
- Ensures employee development, including growth opportunities for key high potential individuals and senior scientists, strong succession planning, and change management efforts to prepare for future transformation within the function and workforce
- Fiscally responsible for capital and budgetary oversight and for care and maintenance of company assets
- Drives Sustainability, Safety, Health, and Environment initiatives, and champion Compliance, Business Conduct and Human Rights focus and culture in the region.
- Leads and contributes to Global Breeding strategies and LRP, ensuring that these goals and deliverables are aligned with high level functional goals and commercial goals.
- Active member of global breeding projects/initiatives as related to people strategy, technology adoption, budgeting & LRP, and portfolio management.
- Establishes tight linkages and partnerships with HR, other Breeding functions, Product Management, Crop Team, and Market Development functions to assure alignment on product targets, launch timelines, and new product opportunities.
Who you are:
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher education in Plant or Animal Breeding, Quantitative or Statistical Genetics, Data Science, or related fields
- Demonstrated strong row crop technology leadership experience
- Strong ability in building cross functional partnerships to solve business or technical problems
- Customer centricity, with proven record of identifying customer needs, prioritizing resources, and bring timely and sustainable solutions
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the year within Canada and USA
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. with 8 years of row crop technology leadership; OR
- M.S. with 10 years of row crop technology leadership experience; OR
- M.B.A. with 5 years of experience in leading teams with demonstrated leadership effectiveness in driving technical strategy, innovation, and developing people.
