The Opportunity:

 

WSP is currently seeking a Team Lead to join our Municipal Roads team, located at our Ottawa office.  Reporting to the Manager Municipal Infrastructure, the successful applicant will be responsible for overall supervision and leadership of the team and will manage a variety of projects, including municipal roadway, active transportation and transit-oriented design projects at the planning, design and construction phases. A day in the life:

  • Take a leadership role in the expansion of business opportunities and execution of municipal roadway projects and studies
  • Identify and respond to opportunities, write proposals, and engage with our clients and industry organizations
  • Provide professional engineering and technical advisory services to WSP clients and prepare analyses, designs, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, presentations and reports
  • Build effective networks and working relationships with key stakeholders and especially clients, current and future
  • Build, lead, manage and participate on multidisciplinary project teams (professional engineers, technologists and technicians) focused on client specified requirements
  • Be a resource for municipal roadway design standards for other internal teams/disciplines
  • Project Management, maintaining a high standard of customer satisfaction by ensuring that project outputs meet client expectation and ensure clients are fully consulted and apprised of progress, issues and related solutions at key project stages and implement WSP project management approach to projects
  • Provide overall supervision and leadership to the Municipal Roads Team including assignment of project work loads
  • Assist with staff development, providing input and recommendations related to staff needs, performance and remuneration
  • Monitor project financial performance, invoice clients promptly, and ensure payment is received
  • Maintain control of the schedule to ensure we deliver by agreed-upon due dates
  • Ensure quality reviews are completed on deliverables in line with WSP policies
  • Contribute on an on-going basis toward maintaining a safe working environment both for yourself and for those working with you. Read and follow WSP Health & Safety policies and guidelines
  • Contract administration and occasional field reviews for projects under construction
  • Other duties as assigned

 

What you'll bring to WSP ...

  • Minimum of 5+ years of municipal infrastructure experience for Public Sector projects in Southern Ontario
  • An undergraduate degree in civil engineering or Master’s Degree from an accredited university
  • Professional Engineer designation with minimum 10+ years of planning and design of municipal infrastructure with emphasis on major roadway, transit and active transportation projects
  • Professional Engineer or eligibility for registration in P.Eng is required
  • Experience and training in Project Management; PMP designation will be an asset
  • Recognition of the Consulting Engineering business and, cost management and high level of initiative, motivation, drive, energy and enthusiasm to get the job done
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario municipal clients and industry practices
  • Thorough understanding of TAC, City of Ottawa, NCC and/or MTO/OPS standards and guidelines
  • Previous success in customer services, client management and proposal/report writing
  • Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Bilingual (French) language skills will be an asset
  • Ability to work effectively and competently with people at all levels in the organisation
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to mentor junior staff
