With your technical background and construction experience, you will help our business unit project team at Base Plant (Extraction/Mine/Energy and Utilities) ensure safe, timely and cost effective execution of all construction related activities.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Plan, monitor, evaluate, advise and report on all construction activities
  • Coordinate contractors, suppliers, and Suncor functional and business unit groups
  • Provide field management and support worksite administration requirements including management of change, quality monitoring, materials management and project controls
  • Develop ongoing risk assessments and mitigations
  • Participate in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) planning activities including hazard identification, hazards and operability (HAZOPs) and critical task planning
  • Organize and hold lessons learned sessions to identify information sharing opportunities
  • Collaborate with commissioning and start-up team to effectively achieve mechanical completion, turn over systems, and achieve turnover of care, custody and control

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • More than eight years of experience in maintenance and construction
  • A valid mechanical Alberta Journeyperson (Pipefitter, Boilermaker, Millwright, Welder), Red Seal or a technical diploma
  • Recognized training in Construction Management
  • A High School Diploma or General Education
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods), industry practices, estimating/budgeting, scheduling and safety requirements
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Leadership and relationship building skills
  • A self-starter with proven experience organizing diverse groups
  • The ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks and competing priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, and Microsoft Project scheduling software
  • Proven analytical skills

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work at our Base Plant site in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is 4 days on / 3 days off rotation (10 hours/ day)
  • This position is safety sensitive
