Market Specialist - China and East Asia
Reporting to the Manager, Regional Business & Market Development and working closely with the Manager, International Recruitment, the Market Specialist is responsible for research, market analysis, student recruitment and partner management internationally within their prescribed region.
The incumbent is responsible for increasing international student enrolment at the College including our partnership campus in Mississauga by recruiting international students from overseas destinations as well as from within Canada. The Market Specialist is the spokesperson for Mohawk College to agents, ministry and government officials, international educators, parents and prospective students with the goal of increasing international student enrolment. The incumbent is required to have good knowledge of all College programs and curriculum updates, knowledge of foreign education systems and Canada immigration policies, as well as customer relationship management (CRM). The incumbent must be available to travel internationally for significant periods of time and to handle non-routine problems that arise. The incumbent is required to respond to urgent situations on weekends and evenings, as required, and to provide service and support to international students.
This position will have a focus on recruitment activities in China and East Asia and will also support other regions as required. A preference will be given to candidates who have experience in China and East Asia as well as to those that have the ability to speak multiple languages.
Responsibilities:
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Recruitment and Marketing:
- Works independently in international markets conducting market analysis and implementing plans for marketing and recruitment specific to different regions of the world.
- Recruits students to enroll in College programs and expands the College database of agents and educational consultants to work on behalf of increasing international students at Mohawk College. The incumbent conducts seminars and presentations at education fairs, schools and other venues; attends education fairs (trade shows) and maintains on-going communications with client groups to encourage an ongoing business relationship.
- Recommends and implements new advertising campaigns, promotional materials and has a sound knowledge of CRM and online marketing.
- Advises students on program options and admission requirements, as well as all necessary steps from application to registration. The incumbent also provides information on living in Canada and in the GTHA, and helps with pre-orientation departure and arrival services.
Agent Management:
- Negotiates terms of engagement, providing training to agents and their staff, and keeping the agent contacts engaged with our office through regular communication. The incumbent manages a strategy with all agents and school counsellors.
- Trains and guides these agents to increase the international applications to Mohawk programs.
- Assess agent requests for agent partnerships and determine if the College would benefit from a business relationship with a particular agency and reviewing for professional and ethical conduct. Agents are recruited to act as representatives of the College in their respective regions and markets and are financially reimbursed for each student enrolled.
- Maintaining long-term relationships with existing agents and partners (academic and industry) globally. In collaboration with other members of the Mohawk team, the incumbent pro-actively negotiates with new agents and partners to increase Mohawk’s competitive market position.
- In collaboration with the Coordinator, International Agents the incumbent develops and maintains a database of agent contacts, communications and marketing history. Also support the review and decision making on contract status as necessary.
- Working collaboratively and through the management team to coordinate support provided to external partners (e.g., familiarization trips, agent information packages, virtual student onboarding, social media campaigns).
Online Marketing:
- Responsible for the design and delivery of communications and activities online for the prescribed region using a variety of digital marketing tools and social media platforms. This may include delivering key messages and encouraging engagement from potential, current students and alumni in specific markets as well as assisting in the development of a social media strategy in collaboration with other members of the department.
Public Relations:
- Responsible for representing the College overseas as well as locally. This involves meetings with the Canadian diplomatic missions overseas as well and their target community in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). They may be in contact with government agencies as required when lobbying on behalf of the college.
Partnership Development:
- Develop and maintain a network of contacts within prescribed region and help to identify opportunities for international partnerships.
- Will liaise with partner organizations in different countries and identify and build opportunities for partnership activity. Where a Regional Business Development Manager is available this work will be done in collaboration and at the direction of that individual
- Will provide support in the organization and co-ordination of high-profile incoming and outgoing visits linked to the development and maintenance of international partnerships.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have:
- 3-year College Diploma or University Degree
- 5 years of experience in international marketing and recruitment in education and in working with educational consultants
- 3 years of work experience in an Ontario Community College or Higher Education institution in a high demand client service environment
- 5 years of work experience in a culturally diverse environment and working knowledge of the educational systems in overseas countries
- Work experience in an admissions, marketing or recruitment department of a Canadian post-secondary institution is required. Some experience with international students, and/or international marketing and recruitment is also required.
- Experience with overseas travelling required.
- Experience with online marketing and the use of social media in marketing and recruiting
- Experience in partnership management and development in international environments
- Experience using a CRM system for nurturing and converting leads
- Must have working knowledge of overseas educational systems and admissions
- Must demonstrate working knowledge of a CRM system, second language will be considered as an asset to this position.
- Excellent public relation skills and presentation skills
- Excellent knowledge of college programs and admission requirements
- Proficiency in a Windows environment including: E-mail; Word processing; Excel; PowerPoint
- Proficiency in a second language considered an asset
- Proficiency in Business Intelligence (BI) software such as Sales Force, Access or Cognos considered assets
- Excellent communication, problem solving skills and sound judgment are essential to this position.
