PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
As a Professional Engineer or equivalent experience you will be expected to provide CPKC with effective safe design and implementation of internally and externally funded railway projects; including wayside signal and train control, highway crossing design, automation and electronic design for IoT related technologies, asset management functions, processor based controllers and application software for embedded controllers or other related projects. The successful candidate will manage a design team and oversee the conceptual and detailed engineering designs for signal related projects and ad-hoc/emergent work. The individual will also be responsible for assigned projects ensuring completion within targeted budget and finish dates. This is a development role with opportunities for future advancement.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Oversee and manage the execution of assigned projects and deliver projects within defined scope, on time and on budget
- Oversee and manage designs of assigned projects
- Provide direction and oversight to engineering consultants working on CPKC projects
- Assist in preparing cost estimates, memos, technical reports and external correspondence
- Provide conceptual design alternatives for internal business case reviews
- Coordinate work activities with internal and external departments and customers to ensure the safe, cost-effective and responsive execution of projects and programs
- Represent CPKC at meetings with various stakeholders where coordination/approval is required for project execution
- Provide timely and responsive service to Business Development for 3rd party customer projects
- Review all projects to ensure CPKC Standards are met and CPKC operations are not impacted
- Provide safety leadership through safety audits
- Provide on-call support and response on a rotating cycle for incidents and emergencies to support CPKC’s 24/7 operation
- Requires travel when necessary to visit project sites and manage on site work
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor degree in Engineering – Electrical or equivalent experience
- Must be P.Eng or equivalent experience
- Must have valid driver’s license
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience (co-op experience considered, and 10-20 years in signals would be an asset)
- Knowledge of industrial electronics or microprocessors would be an asset
- Strong problem solving skills and decision making skills
- Strong data analysis experience required
- Must be proficient with AutoCAD, MS Office products, experience with SAP would be an asset
- Excellent verbal and communication skills
- Strong leadership and technical skills
