Accountabilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of marketing programs that support the University’s broader international recruitment strategy.
  • Develop and execute marketing plans and collateral across a range of platforms, including Microsoft Dynamics and related automated marketing journeys.
  • Lead key aspects of international media planning, advertising, and vendor management in support of overall program goals.
  • Provide stewardship of the McMaster brand, ensuring creative consistency and that value propositions are clearly defined and effectively communicated.
  • Act as a strong ambassador and relationship-builder, working with stakeholders across the University to integrate and align international marketing efforts.
  • Play a key role in the strategic planning and delivery of international marketing and communications programs and projects.
  • Develop, implement, and measure components of the University’s strategic marketing plans in collaboration with other marketing leaders.
  • Serve as a leader in digital evolution by overseeing a broad portfolio of digital projects and properties, including planning, execution, project management, and performance measurement.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to service excellence by building and maintaining effective relationships across the University community.
  • Provide strategic advice on marketing and issues management, ensuring administrators, faculty, staff, and volunteers are equipped to respond effectively to internal and external communications matters.
  • Actively promote collaboration and partnerships—particularly across Faculties and the Registrar’s Office—to strengthen the University’s reputation and deliver exceptional service and support.
  • Collaborate with members of the Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs team to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate initiatives within the portfolio.
 

Qualifications

 

Education

  • University degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
 

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a similar role, with significant experience as a marketing manager in a large organization; experience in the education sector is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or leading international student recruitment strategies for a top-tier academic institution is highly valued.
  • Experience leading people, including direct line management and supporting stakeholders in understanding how marketing tactics align with strategic objectives.
 

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong foundation of digital marketing fundamentals and integrated marketing planning.
  • Experience working with a CRM (ideally Microsoft Dynamics), including the development of automated marketing and communication journeys.
  • Proven ability to build and grow a brand across key international markets.
  • Experience leading media buying strategies to drive awareness and lead generation.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment, decision-making, and success in marketing initiatives and people management.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of the digital environment, with the ability to anticipate and adapt to emerging technologies.
  • Project management expertise, including managing multiple production workflows.
  • Strong service-oriented approach when working with internal and external partners.
  • Effective time management and facilitation skills.
  • Experience managing employees and budgets.
  • Comfortable working in both Windows (Office 365) and Mac environments.
  • Experience with web management and analytics tools, including WordPress, Google Analytics, and Google AdWords.
 

Knowledge of

  • McMaster University policies and guidelines.
  • McMaster’s Brand Standards and marketing and communications strategies.
