In this role, you will be responsible for building positive relationships to support consultation and engagement with the appropriate First Nation, Metis locals, trappers, or other stakeholders in relation to regulatory applications and stakeholder interests, related to Suncor's ongoing operations and growth projects in Wood Buffalo. You will lead a team of 7 individuals.
8 years of experience in regulatory applications and consultation or equivalent experience or technical expertise in a related field, including public participation, Indigenous and community engagement or consultation
Post-secondary degree/diploma and supporting experience
Knowledge of federal and Alberta regulatory and environmental processes
Knowledge of Indigenous and non-Indigenous world views and how they interact
Strong active listening and communication skills
Non-authoritative leadership skills
Experience in identifying priorities and interests of Indigenous communities and stakeholders and collaborating on mitigating concerns
Deep understanding of oil and gas industry, provincial regulatory consultation requirements, First Nation and Metis consultation guidelines and policies
A valid driver’s license
Contribute to the development of the one-year and long-term strategic plans and ensure respective work teams’ plans are aligned to both the functional plans and appropriate business unit goals
Lead and manage Indigenous consultation for regulatory approvals and stakeholder engagement on land use matters
Apply your own technical experience and knowledge to successfully engage with identified First Nation and Metis partners regarding our assets and activities and build support for Suncor exploration, development, and operations
Internally, build relationships and commitment from business partners and subject matter experts at various levels to support the development and delivery of messages that further Suncor’s business strategy and positively influence Suncor’s reputation
Lead and support stewardship and implementation of Suncor’s long-term agreement commitments, including committee participation and senior leader briefing, where applicable
Support negotiations of partnerships with First Nation and Metis partners
Location and other Key Details:
This role will work out of Fort McMurray or Calgary
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
Some business travel will be required
There is an on-call component to this role (every 6-7 weeks)
