Purpose
Leads and oversees the linguistics team responsible for financial translation ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The Financial Translation Team Manager leads French financial translation, revision and proofreading activities for Global Wealth Management. They thrive in a challenging and fast-paced environment and have a high capacity to manage multiple activities simultaneously and meet deadlines.
What will you do in this role?
- Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Leads a team of translator-revisers, translators and proofreaders ensuring optimized capacity in the assignment of translation and adaptation resources and manages the workload based on risk and priorities
- Drives strategic initiatives to optimize performance and improve efficiency of linguistic services
- Reviews translations provided by internal translators and external suppliers to ensure tone of voice and articulation are consistent with brand standards
- Gives appropriate and constructive feedback to colleagues, coaches them to increase their level of autonomy, and foster peer learning
- Proofreads, edits and approves final versions (for print, Web, internal systems, etc.)
- Occasionally translates and adapts high-visibility client-facing financial and marketing documents
- Liaises with internal clients and stakeholders in order to manage expectations and plan projects ahead as much as possible, ensuring that resources are available among other things, and proactively resolves issues that arise
- Fosters adoption of and openness to computer-assisted translation technology, follows trends in the translation industry and adapts ways of working where it makes sense
- Maintains and uses translation memories, terminology bases and style guides
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
- Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed?
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Translation
- 5+ years of experience managing translation services, preferably in a corporate environment
- 7+ years in revision of translated documents from English to French
- 10+ years of experience in the translation industry
- Complete fluency in (both written and oral) and excellent cultural knowledge of the source and target languages (Canadian English and Canadian and Québec French)
- Skilled user of computer assisted translation tools, MS Office, Adobe, Workfront, etc.
- Strong proficiency with translation and project management technology
- Strong knowledge of financial services industry
- Canadian Securities Course (CSC®) considered a strong asset
- Previous wealth management translation experience an asset
- Strong coordination, and people management skills, to facilitate teamwork and coordinated execution of multiple deliverables
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong ability to work efficiently under pressure
- High degree of leadership, mentoring and consulting skills
