Reporting to the Head, Enterprise Finance Business Partnering (BP) and Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), the Finance Business Partner, Technical will collaborate with the Enterprise FP&A and BP Leadership team to optimize financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, analysis and capital prioritization at the enterprise level and partner with the Technical group to deliver value for Teck.
Directly supporting the Senior Vice President of Technical, this role is crucial for the delivery of the annual and 5-year plan goals of the Technical Leadership team. The individual in this role will lead all aspects of finance business partnering services for Technical including working with peers in the team to deliver both Finance and Corporate objectives.
The successful candidate will maintain and nurture key working relationships within Finance including Treasury, Tax, Accounting, Assurance & Advisory and Business Unit (BU) Finance Business Partner teams. Outside of Finance key partners include SVP Technical, Head, Digital Analytics, Head, Innovation and Strategy, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, and the Director TDS Optimization plus the key leaders within each of their teams.

Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Standing member and primary point of Finance contact for the SVP Technical
- Enable access to Finance SMEs and increase Finance effectiveness through translation of business needs to Finance requirements
- Contribute to strategy formulation by providing a high-quality evidence-based analysis, and advice to the Technical and Finance teams
- Accountable for financial governance and standard services including processes, tools and templates
- Coordinate and implement Product Finance Accounting, Management Reporting, Budgeting and Forecasting, 5-year Planning, Investment Committee approvals, Post Completion Reviews, Appropriation Requests including coordination and collaboration with Technical and relative business owners and any vital valuation or cost decision support
- Deliver quality financial modeling and value capture through execution and continuous improvement of standards including templates and leading practices
- Maintain and improve business value drivers in support of the right performance management metrics to influence improved performance
- Deliver quality and timely management reporting including critical insights for decision-makers and prepare executive materials as required
- Deliver timely and comprehensive corporate planning deliverables including capital prioritization ‘one-pagers’ promoting the Capital Decisions Analysis Framework
- Assignment leader for the FP&A Analyst Pool responsible for day-to-day management of tasks and overall outcomes for the business
- Coach and mentor analysts to develop capability and skills through on-the-job experience
- Support the Lead Corporate Planning in enterprise planning deliverables, preparation of executive materials and analysis of results based on Technical submissions
- Support the Manager Enterprise Analytics in the execution of Capital Prioritization deliverables and analysis of portfolio results based on Technical submissions and with relevant inputs and insights for enterprise-wide analysis
- Support the Head, Enterprise FP&A and FBP to influence strategic decision-making for Technical and the corporate level including financial, commercial and operational objectives, growth opportunities, special projects and value chain trade-offs through the provision of business intelligence
- Support the Enterprise FBP Manager in relevant commentary for consolidate performance management reporting
- Support the FP&A community of practice to drive consistency and standardization of FP&A leading practices across the organization
- Develop business and financial models for short-term and long-term strategic forecasts
- Provide decision support for strategic opportunities including decisions requiring Investment Committee approval through the formal opportunity framing, options analysis and probabilistic financial modeling
- Act proactively in improving processes, systems and behaviors both internally for the team and externally for customer
Qualifications
- A degree in Business, Economics, or a related field; MBA or equivalent post-graduate degree is preferred
- Proficient ability to build and grow relationships within a fast paced, highly ambiguous environment
- A professional designation related to finance (e.g. Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst, Master of Business Administration or Master of Science in Mineral Economics)
- A minimum of ten years of relevant work experience or in a role with transferrable skills
- Previous experience in the Energy or Natural Resources sector including experience supporting Technology teams
- Proficient in developing and interpreting financial models with a solid understanding of business drivers and the ability to explore and recommend opportunities to improve performance and manage risks in decision making
- Expert at gathering and synthesizing inputs, framing opportunities and leading decision-making conversations from a fact-based position
- Develop analytical methods and sophisticated concepts in finance, and able to apply economic, accounting, financial and investment principles to the solution of corporate business problems
- Prioritize relationship-building skills, collaborative, and adept at working with personnel at all levels of seniority across the Company and external collaborators like relevant industry and FP&A professional organisations to promote capability development.
- A motivated self-starter who can prioritize amongst multiple projects at once and work with limited guidance
- Keen to learn, possess or develop the background and expertise to contribute to commodity and industry specific analysis both regionally and globally, and use that understanding to pressure-test and add context to analysis
