Purpose
The Manager, Communications and Reporting is responsible for the creative design and production of Board and senior management presentations and reports for the Cyber Security and IT Risk Management department.
This requires ensuring accuracy, consistency and excellence with creative rigor to achieve clear and meaningful risk reporting. The position requires developing and presenting design concepts, combined with a good understanding of risk reporting and strong focus on meeting the needs of stakeholders and report audience.
The Manager is responsible for prioritizing the workload to ensure client’s objectives and tight deadlines are met.
Key Accountabilities
- Report Design Conceptualization & Production
- Implementation of creative design, development & execution of design material; including analyze and accurately interpret user requests/requirements and plan and coordinate a course of action, prepare mock-ups for user approval and ensure accurate development of risk reports and presentations
- Act as a key producer of periodic risk reports and ensure risk reports are clear and meaningful while ensuring accuracy, consistency and excellence with creative rigor
- Make value add recommendations around risk report content and data visualization. This would require a good understanding of various risk disciplines and processes and ability to edit risk reports for content clarity and messaging
- Work independently to produce high quality and professional presentations quickly and efficiently within tight timelines. Be agile to respond to ad-hoc requests.
- Collaboration
- Effectively manage the interests and input of all stakeholders – risk subject matter experts, senior management and report users – and maintain high levels of service
- Building effective, collaborative working relationships across GRM and the Bank including Secretary’s department, Finance and other corporate functions
- Actively sharing report design knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members
- Encouraging the generation of new ideas and approaches
Reporting Design Standards
• Develop and maintain department standards for risk reporting, while ensuring adherence to the Bank’s branding guidelines
• Build a center of excellence for risk report design and visualization
• Maintain knowledge of industry best practices in graphic design and keep current on new technologies that contribute to effectiveness and efficiencies in graphic design
Ongoing Development and Maintenance
• Generate or solicit content and maintenance of number channels of communications, internal and external.
• Keep track of roadmap of deliverables, assigning priority to them as result of understanding and translating team goals in an agile environment.

Cyber risk is a key priority for Scotiabank, and Scotiabank is committed to dealing with cyber risk issues efficiently and effectively. Based in Toronto with a significant amount of work performed remotely with other countries, majority of the work is performed via voice and video calls. The possibility of travel to global sites may be required although infrequent, will require the ability to travel without restrictions as necessary.
- Demonstrated experience operating in day-to-day aspects of a dynamic team environment. Ability to work autonomously with accountability for work deliverables. Comfortable working with ambiguous and/or differing data points to create opinions. The ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a professional image.
- Able to convert technical information into operational risks and to communicate complex topics both orally and in written form. Must be detail-oriented and able to interact with other staff and clients, in person or by phone.

- Must possess strong communication (oral and written), listening, presentation & facilitation skills.
- University degree or college diploma in Graphic Design, Digital Media, or Media Arts and Communications, and/or relevant experience. Passion for design with full understanding of typography, layout, colour theory and composition and creative thinker
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite - In-Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat and advanced level skill in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly communicate the complexities of a task, including stakeholder liaison and diplomacy
- Superior analytical skills, high degree of judgement, attention to detail in design and reporting. Role will require good understanding of various risk disciplines and processes
- Ability to work on complex projects independently, within tight deadlines, adapts to changing deadlines and delivers materials, Excellent organizational skills are required to manage multiple and concurrent projects.
- Experience working in Agile or similar methodology is an asset
- Bilingual an asset (Spanish)
Education / Experience
- University degree or college diploma in Communications, English, Graphic Design, Digital Media, or Media Arts.
- Product Manager / Product Owner with experience on these or similar products: Digital Channels, Reports Production, Communications channels, Management of Cyber and IT Security.
