Job Description:

Role Summary

Come be part of an exciting and challenging opportunity by helping to accelerate the growth and application of data analytics capabilities at Sun Life Canada. As part of the Sun Life Distribution Analytics team, you will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of applying data and analytics to tackle business problems. You will be helping Sun Life use analytics to deliver on our purpose of helping our Clients achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives.

 

As the Manager, Business Intelligence on the Distribution Analytics team, your focus will be working with and leading a team of analytics professionals who will use sales analytics expertise and a suite of modern data and analytics tools to deliver innovative and impactful analytics products and services.  These products and services will allow Sun Life Distribution sales leaders to meet their business growth and profitability objectives.

What will you do?

Reporting & Business Intelligence

  • Build out comprehensive business intelligence & reporting for Distribution leadership & sales org, keeping in mind the needs of varied audiences and the desire to drive action & sales

  • Coordinate with partners to ensure existing and in-development reporting meets the evolving needs of the organization 

  • Enhance our partners' ability to self-serve data through customizable dashboards and raw data dumps

  • Work to improve data literacy across the organization. Focus on improving ability to access data & to understand potential insights from data.

  • Partner and coordinate with data engineering to enhance data foundational capabilities.

Initiatives, Operational Support, & Complex Investigations

  • Leverage data expertise to support initiatives through scoping, implementation, impact analysis, and ongoing reporting.

  • Source & provide data to operational business units to drive efficiencies in day to day operations

  • Solve data intensive business issues using data from a variety of sources & incorporating expertise from relevant Sun Life business units

  • Perform deep-dive analysis on key areas of interest for Distribution leadership and communicate results in appropriate manner

Organizational Best Practices

  • Work to drive efficiencies within Distribution Analytics by ensuring adoption & continued evolution of best practices

  • Participate in the wider analytics community to advance capabilities across the organization

What will you need to succeed?

Education & Experience

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, engineering, or computer science, plus strong quantitative skills and background, or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum of 1 year experience leading and/ or manage people is required

  • At least 5 years proven experience and ability in the following areas:

    • Reporting and business intelligence

    • Complex data sourcing, manipulation and transformation

    • Insightful analysis of data

Technical Skills

  • 5 years proven experience with SAS and SQL mine large quantities of data

  • 2 years experience with Python, and / or R

  • 3 + years experience in creating dashboards and stories in Tableau.

Soft Skills

  • Proven balance of analytical and creative problem solving skills

  • Must be able to effectively communication complex results to a business audience not familiar with complex data and analytics

  • Coach team members and drive engagement in projects

What will be nice to have?

  • Experience working with VBA

  • Past experience in life insurance / wealth management, other financial services industry components (e.g., retail banking, credit card, property and casualty insurance), or distribution

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
