JOB SUMMARY:
As part of the Mohawk College Library team, the incumbent supports in any one of the campus Library locations. This position is the primary point of contact for library users who access library facilities, systems, and services. The incumbent provides a high level of user service in-person, by phone, via email, and online including:
- Library and information services such as circulation; reference; information literacy; and orientation to library services, research databases, online library catalogue and various associated resources
- Library operational support such as preparing and processing resource materials; collecting, tracking and gather statistics for analysis
- Other services and support such as promoting and marketing the services of Mohawk College Libraries and contributing to collection development. In addition, and under the direction of the Director, Library and Academic Services, the incumbent assists with the completion of information services related projects and completes other projects towards the achievement of the strategic goals of the Library team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide high-quality service as the primary point of contact for users in a campus library in-person, by phone, and online
- Provide information and reference service, in person, via telephone, email and virtually for users in a campus library including quick reference service and information services as well as more in-depth reference by conducting reference interviews, ascertaining users’ information needs, and identifying relevant information sources.
- Assist students in the promotion and progression of academic integrity through collaboration with the Mohawk College Library team, and other stakeholders
- Locate information by conducting searches of the online catalogue, discovery layer, research databases and indexes in both electronic and print formats, internet, and other tools such as government documents; and by utilizing external resources such as interlibrary loan.
- Provide general library orientation and information literacy one-on-one, group sessions and tours to users, including students, faculty, staff, administration and general public.
- Perform all circulation transactions using an automated integrated library system including signing materials in/out, placing holds, collecting and reconciling fines, collecting payment for lost materials.
- Incumbent is required to work shifts, including a combination of early shifts and late shifts to support Library services operating hours.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful applicant must have:
- A minimum 2 year post-secondary Library and Information Technician diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of 2 years of practical library experience, preferably in a public sector organization
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community
