About the role
We’re looking for a Legal Counsel or Senior Counsel to join our dynamic team!
Reporting to the Manager, Legal Affairs for Insurance, Regulatory and Marketing (QC), the successful candidate will provide support on a broad range of insurance regulatory matters pertaining to our companies’ operations in the province of Quebec. Your work will have a direct impact on our growth and all aspects of our insurance operations. People will count on you to provide quality legal advice and innovative business solutions on different matters related to the organisation’s products, services, and activities.
Here are a few ways you'll make a difference:
You will act as Legal Counsel or Senior Counsel on behalf of Intact Financial Corporation (IFC) and its subsidiaries, primarily in insurance regulatory law including the development and distribution of insurance products, market conduct requirements, federal and provincial licensing, and marketing law, etc.
You will be required to provide legal guidance on day-to-day operational matters.
You will analyse, draft, and negotiate various service and distribution contracts.
You will ensure the integrity of the legal and regulatory aspects of the distribution of the financial products and services offered by IFC companies and ensure that the values of the organization are respected.
You will also participate in a variety of national strategic projects in collaboration with the Manager or Vice President of Legal Affairs, when appropriate.
Qualifications:
Member of the Barreau du Québec in good standing
3 to 7 years experience at a large law firm or large in-house department, in commercial, corporate and/or insurance law, preferably in a regulated industry
Superior technical legal skills
Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
Confidence in managing files independently with minimal support
Comfort with technology tools, including good working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Sound judgement and the ability to assess the practical implications of legal risks and think strategically
Ability to proactively propose innovative business solutions
Ability to build relationships with business units and stakeholders and influence decision making at the operational and corporate levelTeam player with ability to collaborate exceptionally well with others
Ability to prioritize and manage many files and projects at once
For candidates located in Quebec, Bilingualism (French and English, both written and spoken) is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with English-speaking colleagues across the country.
