Learning Management System Support
Reporting to the Director, Academic Technology, the Learning Management System Support person has an essential role in maintaining the daily operational performance of the LMS, as well as acting as a connection between the IT department, vendor technical support, Digital Skills, and Instructional Design teams. In consultation with the Director, Associate Dean, and the LMS Administrator, the incumbent will provide technical support of Mohawk College’s MyCanvas production LMS, MyCanvas development and testing LMS, and the MyCanvas Connect external partners platform LMS.
The LMS Support person is responsible for the support, implementation, delivery, and maintenance of content, assets, and other resources used for instructional functions. The incumbent supports the installation of system updates, upgrades various tools and software integrations, and assists with content and user configurations within the with three LMS instances. Working collaboratively with vendors, College staff and faculty, the incumbent provides support with continuous process and quality improvements essential to support evidence-informed instructional practices.
Strong communication skills are required for the documentation and maintenance of technical procedures, policy documentation, and best practice guides. Ability to collaborate with others at all levels of the organization, including vendors. Adhering to set IT Security Policies, Standards, and Guidelines, and have proficiency in Javascript, CSS, HTML, REST API and JSON.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
System Configuration and Maintenance
- Assists with daily operation, use, and configuration of the Mohawk College’s LMS Instances.
- Problem solve and resolve issues in live/active LMS courses.
- Work in partnership with the Information Technology (IT) IT Security Operations to maintain procedures and policies to ensure the security and integrity of systems/software.
- Communicates opportunities for process and quality improvements, providing feedback on usage, defects, and suggested enhancements to LMS Admin, IT, and vendors.
- Collaborate and uphold the development of LMS administration, governance, content/data migration processes, and user account life cycle.
User / Course management
- Maintains user (students, faculty, staff) login accounts, course enrollments, and user structures as needed and assigns user permissions based on school or department requirements.
- Monitor, maintain and process all incoming cross-listing requests at the start of each semester for faculty college-wide in a timely manner.
Troubleshooting
- Prioritize, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to system functionality and software systems and determine if the request needs to be forwarded to another team member, IT Helpdesk, Registrar, Human Resources, or other areas of the college.
- Support Integration of applications such as, Kaltura, Turnitin, Respondus, Zoom, Microsoft products, etc. and publisher content at the course, department, and institutional level.
- Run service test scripts specific to LMS functionality and troubleshoot local issues.
- Implement test plans including those for SCORM Components, using the industry best practices.
- Supporting corporate learning programs, public/private educational institutions/programs that utilize a learning management system.
Testing, Maintenance, and Documentation
- Monitor and test monthly release patches for upcoming system changes and provides feedback to the ETS team.
- Collaborates with the LMS vendor CSM on weekly deploy upgrades/maintenance patching.
- Research methods to improve ongoing efficiencies and tool effectiveness and promote the effective use of the LMS amongst those engaged in course development.
- Provide comprehensive technical testing and proofing of all course components; ensuring readiness for the go-live updates.
- Test for web accessibility and usability of industry standards, best practice and advances in technology and techniques in these areas.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful applicant must have:
- A minimum three (3) year diploma/degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent related experience; a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the information technology field or experience in a similar role.
- Minimum 3 years progressive work experience.
- Skills and knowledge in LMS systems, preference to Canvas by Instructure.
- Skills and knowledge on how to perform and maintain application integrations within the LMS.
- Ability to work independently.
- Clear communication and documentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills, LMS systems, MS Office, Proctoring software, media applications.
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
