Lead Platform Operations Engineer

Job Description

To provide administration and support for the build-out of Hadoop platform and associated technologies, including deployment and usage standards across HDP and CDP software stacks.

  • To address challenges with the scale-out of the platform, enabling superior performance and multi-tenancy capabilities, using leading edge technologies.
  • Lead and/or co-ordinate activities to resolve complex technical issues/problems, both with internal infrastructure teams and vendors, across the Hadoop ecosystem.
  • Ensure that solutions are optimally designed, so that applications meet their defined SLAs, reuse of existing structures is maximized and operational costs are minimized.
  • To ensure that all infrastructure and environmental changes are appropriately tested and implemented in such a manner that there is no impact to RBC systems and clients.
  • To provide related technical support for development and production environments including required level of 7X24 on-call support.
  • To support RBC’s strategic direction while embracing automation, data-driven decisions, and Big Data Platform adoption.
  • Assess the impact of software upgrades and other environmental changes, communicating and coordinating application modifications, as required.
  • Test and deploy new software features and functions to improve overall business value and management of the Hadoop environment.

Job Summary

The DNA Data Platform Services team is responsible for the bank’s Enterprise Data Lake ecosystem, which hosts key applications across the bank’s lines of business. The next generation of the Hadoop data lake is currently being deployed with applications migrating to the new CDP environments. This role provides the opportunity to be part of a dynamic team responsible for the daily operations, support & troubleshooting and implementation related to these key Hadoop platforms. You will be responsible for planning and managing successful implementation of changes to these environments along with collaborating with internal infrastructure and application teams to ensure high platform availability and application efficiency.
