Job Description

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY

As a Lead Scrum Master, you will enable several multi-disciplinary agile teams at RBC’s Site Reliability Engineering Center for Enablement to run a highly agile development process that seamlessly aligns with business and technical needs. The Scrum Master is a key role within a highly technical engineering/delivery team as it removes any impediments that obstruct a team's pursuit of its sprint goals and ultimately deliver a product that generates business benefits for one or several RBC lines of business. This role will work very closely not only with engineers and developers, but a highly motivated Product Owner/Manager focused on value driven delivery.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

  • Monitoring and improving the scrum process and project progress; helping solve impediments in the development process.

  • Coaching multiple development/scrum team to apply appropriate processes to create successful products.

  • Fostering self-organization and collaborative scrum team; sheltering the team from outside distractions to keep focus mainly on the agreed sprint goals.

  • Ensuring scrum principles and approaches are understood correctly by the development team and stakeholders; maximizing the performance of the team.

Initiative delivery:

  • Facilitating medium-to-high complexity Agile initiatives from initiation through release, providing oversight to ensure alignment with RBC Agile/Scrum practices, including but not limited to, project kick-off, sprint, release and deployment planning

  • Accountable alongside the scrum team for the achievement of release objectives and results that meet LOB stakeholders’ needs and expectations

  • Manage risks to delivery

  • Tracking and reporting for the Team

  • Navigating and identifying shared IT services required by the team in the delivery of its objectives

Team activity facilitation (small to medium teams):

  • Facilitate discussion leading to collective decision-making, goal setting and conflict resolution within the team

  • Remove impediments to delivery success and escalate issues through business and/or IT channels where necessary

  • Accountable for creating and maintaining the appropriate vehicles for open communication within the scrum team (e.g. tracker boards) to create a trusting and safe team environment

  • Continuously seek to improve  team performance by promoting joint accountability for results and solving productivity issues

  • Facilitating and engaging in business analysis, user experience and technical conversations across  platforms and multiple levels of influence

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

 Must have:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or Kanban Service Delivery Manager- where Scrum or Kanban principles, practices and theory were diligently applied

  • 5+ years of experience in software development and/or project management and/ or business (system) analysis or other relevant professional experience

  • 4+ years of working on medium-to-high complexity initiatives

  • Undergraduate Degree or equivalent experience and Certified Scrum Master / Agile Practitioner.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience working in a startup or tech focused company.

  • Product Ownership certification
