About the role:
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Part Time Laboratory Assistant - Distribution to join our dynamic Supply Chain Operations West team.
In this role you will be responsible for para‑technical functions of the Laboratory and may be assigned any of the duties and responsibilities listed below. Depending on the size of the Centre, complete rotation of duties may not be practical. You will adhere to all current operating procedure, practices good judgment in the performance of job responsibilities and promote Centre objectives through good interpersonal skills.
Formula for success:
- Drawing on your knowledge and laboratory experience, you will be receiving and storing blood, fractionation products and maintaining stock of distribution supplies in accordance with all Canadian Blood Services' Standard Operating Procedures and Good Documentation Practices
- With your commitment to Excellence, you will be ensuring safety of blood products through an ongoing monitoring of product and product storage equipment (temperature, humidity variations, etc.) as well as performing recalls and removing outdated products
- Utilizing your communication and your interpersonal skills, you will be issuing blood and related products to our customers such as Provincial Hospitals and other blood centers, and communicating with hospital team about orders placed as required
- Applying your organizational skills, you will be batching and packing orders by priority and time of delivery to ensure compliance within established parameters for time and temperature limits during transit
Desired skills and education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong multi-tasking skills, work ethic and ability to follow instructions precisely
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal staff and external stakeholders in an effective and professional manner
- Ability work with others in a multidisciplinary team environment, as well as independently with minimum supervision
- Ability to work variable shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends
- Physical ability to perform duties of the position (stoop, kneel, crouch, lift and carry boxes/cartons) and lifting up to 50lbs

What you can expect:
- This is a part-time position with two day shifts and two night shifts per week. The position will work Monday 0800-1600, Thursday 0800-1600, Saturday 0000-0730, Sunday 0045-0815. Rest days are Tuesday and Wednesday.
This position must meet the Trustworthiness and Reliability Verification requirements of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and is subject to criminal records and employment verification checks.
