Your Opportunity
Stantec's Geotechnical and Materials Engineering Team is looking for a Senior Geotechnical Technician to join our team in Saint John, NB as a Lab Manager. Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, you will work closely with an experienced team of engineers and technicians to become part of our dynamic team, primarily performing laboratory and field-testing services. Our team provides conventional and advanced field laboratory testing services for soil, rock, aggregate, and concrete.
Your Key Responsibilities
In this role you will have the opportunity to work with engineers and other technicians performing general duties consisting of both field and laboratory work including the following:
- Manage staff and other resources to perform laboratory testing and construction monitoring/testing.
- Communication with project managers regarding scope of services and schedule.
- Oversee maintenance, calibration, purchase, and certification of equipment, including nuclear density gauges.
- Maintain laboratory certifications for CCIL, ISO, and CMEC.
- Coordinate with other Stantec laboratories to balance workload and share resources as needed.
- Conduct various geotechnical construction inspections such as footing and founding level inspections, test pit inspection, reinforcing steel inspections, proof roll and subgrade inspection and attend regular construction meetings.
- Geotechnical field testing such as caisson installation, piling supervision, rock anchor testing; observation of deep foundation installation and piezometer installation and measurements.
- Construction quality control/quality assurance and preparation of quality documents.
- Mentoring, coaching and training of technical staff as required.
- Assist with field and laboratory testing of soils/concrete/asphalt.
- Assistance with proposal and report preparation in the office.
- Perform quality control reviews of laboratory and field results, and issue final reports.
- Promote safe work practices for laboratory and field activities.
- Other general field and office related duties.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
As the successful candidate, you will possess the following qualifications:
- Having previous experience as a manager in a geotechnical/materials setting is preferred, but not required.
- Current registration with ASET or APEGA and hold designation as C.Tech., C.E.T., P.Tech.(Eng.), or P.Eng.
- Have experience with laboratory soil, concrete, and asphalt testing procedures.
- Have experience managing materials testing and construction field review projects.
- CCIL Certification for soils, concrete, and asphalt would be and asset.
- Have knowledge of soil sampling techniques and construction methodology.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities.
- Willingness to be a team player with a strong ability to work independently.
- Energetic team player with a commitment to superior client service.
- Demonstrate initiative and ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
- A valid Driver's License is required.
- Ability and willingness to work away from home.
- Strong focus on Health and Safety.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
Education and Experience
Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 5-8 years of experience.
Valid New Brunswick a Driver’s License and access to their own personal vehicle.
Moderate lifting and traversing uneven ground will be required.
Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Some time will be spent in a typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
