The Opportunity:

WSP E&I has a new opportunity for a Junior Hydrogeologist to join our Mining, Geo-Environment & Engineering group on a full-time basis based in Vancouver.

The selected candidate will support hydrogeology-related projects and proposal efforts with an emphasis on the mining industry in Canada. You will work directly with our senior hydrogeologist on challenging projects and be responsible for contributing to geochemistry water quality and hydrogeology field programs, data analysis, geochemical modeling, interpretation, and technical reporting. You will contribute to the growth of our hydrogeology team of professionals in Canada, while supporting our mine water and waste management projects

A day in the life:

  • Groundwater data analysis, field testing and assisting in groundwater modeling work (as an asset) as projects require
  • Conduct field investigations including drilling and monitoring well installations, slug testing, aquifer testing programs, groundwater, surface water and soil sampling
  • Oversee and manage drilling and excavation programs
  • Data analysis which may include hydraulic conductivity tests (slug test), pump tests Support in the preparation of groundwater and remediation reports.
  • Adhere to safe work practices and company/client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner
  • You will be supported/supervised by the Senior/Intermediate Hydrogeologist
  • You will always ensure health and safety policies are followed at all sites and take WSP's Life-Saving rules to heart

 

What you'll bring to WSP ...

  • University degree or diploma from a recognized institution with a specialty in hydrogeology, Earth Sciences, environmental engineering, or geoscience.
  • 0 - 3 years of consulting or industry experience in hydrogeology
  • Eligible to register as in geoscientist or engineer in training with EGBC.
  • Academic knowledge of aquatic geochemistry would be considered an asset
  • Strong data manipulation abilities including experience with data management tools (i.e., Excel, EQuIS, Access) would be considered an asset
  • Technical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Strong relational skills within the team environment and with clients are essential
  • Strong organizational and communications skills
  • Willing to travel domestically, occasionally in remote locations, varying environments and inclement weather, sometimes with limited communications and logistical support
  • Unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License valid in the province of British Columbia
  • A satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy
  • Ability to comfortably lift up to 50 pounds
  • Willing to spend significant site at the project site
  • Applied work experience in hydrogeological assessments within natural or mine-affected sites would be considered an asset
