Your Opportunity

Our Environmental Services group is seeking a Junior Historical Researcher/Cultural Heritage Specialist to work at one of our Ontario office locations. As the successful candidate, you will assist in the production of Cultural Heritage Evaluation Reports, Cultural Heritage Existing Conditions and Preliminary Impact Assessments, Heritage Impact Assessments, Heritage Conservation District Studies and Plans, and other reporting as necessary. This is a one-year maternity leave, contract role in a hybrid work environment.

Your Key Responsibilities

The position requires you to:

  • Conduct primary and secondary research online and in-person at libraries, archives, and museums
  • Conduct site visits to determine the presence of potential heritage resources
  • Analyze and report on research findings on a broad range of historical research topics across Ontario

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently remotely, if necessary
  • Applicants must be willing to travel within Ontario, have a flexible availability, and have a valid Ontario driver’s license
  • Experience at conducting cultural heritage resource studies for a variety of development sectors is an asset, but not mandatory
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and legislation related to heritage practices and environmental assessment in Ontario is an asset, but not required
  • Writing samples may be requested prior to interviews

Education and Experience

Undergraduate or graduate degree in history, heritage conservation, or a similar field from a recognized post-secondary institution
