A Health Emergency Response Unit (ERU) is a standardized modular package of highly qualified and trained personnel, equipment, and pharmaceuticals ready to be deployed to international emergencies on short notice. The IT/Telecom delegate, under the direction of the Team Leader or a designated management position will work in collaboration with other Movement Partners, delegates, national staff and volunteers, local health authorities and affected communities as part of a team within the mandate of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

 

As IT/Telecom professional you will:

  • Manage and co-ordinate the installation, maintenance, and repair of Information Technologies and Telecommunications systems for the Health ERU. Ensure that the ERU is properly setup, including commissioning and support of ERU-specific Laptops, internet connection, satellite phones, including training/refresher on proper use of the devices, solar and other emergency power systems, the assembly and operation of UAV systems
  • Setup critical data and voice communications to National Office for the submission of basic e-mail and situation reports.
  • Support, monitor, test and troubleshoot hardware and software problems. Provide user support to ensure the effective and timely resolution of technical problems, keeping staff informed of the status of their support request
  • Facilitate the reception of the equipment and maintain control over the existing stock of IT/Telecom equipment, including but not limited to the IT/Telecom kit deployed, in collaboration with the Logistics and Administration delegates
  • Setup backup capacity and backup routine (NAS or other solution) to prevent the loss of operational data
  • Ensure that adequate security protocol are in place to safeguard information
  • Support the Host National Society in re-establishing their essential IT/Telecom capacity or developing additional capacity if relevant

 

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Electronics or Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to leave on mission on very short notice for 4-6 weeks
  • Minimum of four years’ experience in the following core areas:
    • ICT telecommunications, IT Server/Desktop environments and frontline help desk response
    • Setup and provision of LAN and WAN network configurations in remote and often complex contexts
    • All types of Terrestrial, Wireless and VSat communications technologies
    • Land mobile radio systems UHF, VHF, HF both analog and digital implementations
  • Minimum of one year experience in living or working in a cultural context other than their own and working in low-resource settings
  • Fluent in English required with fluency in other languages, particularly French or Spanish, an asset

 

Working Conditions:

Full vaccination against COVID-19 is mandatory for this position and operation (the CRC will however adhere to its duty to accommodate those who are unable to be fully vaccinated for a reason related to a human right protected ground)
