Job Description:
Sun Life Technology Services Project Management Office (TS PMO) is looking for an individual who is able to perform and lead teams as a Scrum Master/Project Manager. The individual helps build high-performing teams by providing support with product delivery, utilizing a deep understanding of agile principles and team dynamics. In addition, they have a solid understanding of the more traditional approach to project management, understanding the SDLC and how to manage the lifecycle of more traditional projects.
What will you do?
- Monitor Scrum processes and support Product Owner on release planning and backlog management
- Strengthen the team’s understanding of Agile / Scrum principles and ensure application of these practices
- Ensure alignment of teams with Agile practices while influencing and coaching them towards high performance
- Bring transparency to Business, IT, and Operations about the team’s progress and Agile processes
- Foster a continuous learning environment, helping teams adapt to changing circumstances
- Ensure the team’s actions are aligned with the project goals and vision
- Manage all phases of large or several medium, high risk IT infrastructure projects while leveraging best practice standards and processes
- Manage stakeholder relationships to ensure project delivery expectations are specified and successfully met
- Proven ability to develop and manage detailed work plans, project schedules, estimates and resource plans
- Define and manage project risks and issues ensuring appropriate strategies and plans are in place to mitigate or handle effectively
- Ensure effective and timely communication occurs within the project team and between the project team and stakeholders
- Actively drive and present product plans and reviews, demos, and competitive analyses with the team, partners and executive leadership.
- Work with larger program teams in building external communication and action plans using JIRA, Confluence, and other tools
What you need to succeed:
- 5 to 7 years of progressive experience as a Scrum Master / Project Manager
- Foundational knowledge of cloud: AWS and Azure a plus
- 5 to 7 years of experience with implementing medium to large range of technology/business projects; including core infrastructure (data centre, cloud computing <AWS, Azure>, mainframes, distributed server environments, web-hosting services, desktop, network, telephony, unified communication, security, etc)
- Extensive knowledge of Agile principles and the ability to adapt previous experience to evolving environments with ambiguous requirements
- Agile certification: Scrum Master, Kanban, SAFe
- Certified Project Management professional designation (PMP)
- Delivery or software development background a plus
Preferred skills:
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on relationship management and team building
- Ability to manage ambiguity effectively and help project team members work with ambiguity
- Effectively and concisely communicate project and technical information to provide comprehensive, concise recommendations to management
- Strong Influencing skills and the ability to manage difficult situations to resolution
- Strong facilitation skills to conduct successful meetings / ceremonies
- Ability to create project plans for complex projects with many interrelated paths
- Action oriented, self-motivated, and solutions driven
- Experience managing projects which involve 3rd party managed services.
- Experience in leading off-shoring and global projects.
- Ability to straddle between Agile and Waterfall Methodologies
- Strong working knowledge of MS Project, Office suite, Collaboration tools (Jira, SharePoint, ServiceNow, …)
Note: Some travel between our Toronto and Waterloo offices might be required for this role.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.
