Mohawk College is currently recruiting for our next
IoT and Sensor Systems Technologist
Reporting to the Industrial Research Chair of Sensor Systems and the Internet of Things (IoT), the successful candidate will conduct and lead a specified program of research in embedded systems.
The candidate’s main duties are to support to the Chair, and the IoT Development Manager by working through all development stages from initial project scoping to successful project delivery. This can include, but is not limited to: hardware/software co-designing of embedded systems, parts assembly with testing and troubleshooting, embedded programming and the use of testing equipment and instruments.
The role also supports the short and long term planning including managing related initiatives; as well as ensuring that the Sensor Systems and IoT Lab can effectively support its industry partners and expand its capabilities to engage student and faculty involvement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
Assist the Industrial Research Chair and the IoT Development Manager in implementing applied industrial projects in the system specification, design, and deployment of embedded wireless sensing systems, including:
- Working with hardware units that include PLC’s, Remote I/O, Vision Systems and Hydraulic/Pneumatic devices.
- Working with CAD software, Automation software.
- Performing physical system modeling, testing and results validation.
- Submitting final drawings, models and reports detailing work design, implementation, and testing phases with description of results and outcomes.
- Dealing with PLC’s for process control and automation.
- Performs testing using equipment such as (oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, logic analysers, digital signal analysers), and writing and executing hardware test specifications.
Provides assistance to the research team in conducting the research activities, including planning, organizing, conducting, and communicating research studies within the overall scope of the applied research project.
- Coordinates and performs a variety of independent activities involved in the collection, analysis, documentation, and interpretation of information/results.
- Perform setup, testing, troubleshooting of electrical systems for applied research projects ranging from motors, drives, and P&C relays. Supervise work of third-party vendors.
- Provides relevant technical support and guidance to on-going lab projects.
- Presentations to partners and clients.
- Participation in regular online meetings.
Involved in identifying the technical requirements for funding proposals.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful applicant must have:
- 3 year diploma/degree in Computer or Mechatronics Engineering or Engineering Technology.
- Minimum of one year experience project management, leading teams of people.
- Minimum of two years experience working with a team of people.
- Minimum of three years experience developing in C#, Java, Python, C/C++.
- Experience working with ML & AI.
- Experience working with PLC, automation systems and developing control algorithms.
- Knowledge in mechanical systems design.
- Familiarity with 2D and 3D design (AutoCAD and SolidWorks).
- Familiarity with 3D printing and Modeling Technologies.
- Familiarity with Automation Software.
- Familiarity with control systems.
- Familiarity with software development & best practices
