The University of Windsor’s School of Computer Science, in the Faculty of Science seeks applications for a tenure-track Teaching Intensive position, at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing as early as January 1, 2024.
The School of Computer Science consists of over 30 faculty members, 8 support staff, over 900 undergraduate students, and approximately 700 graduate students. Programs include Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Computer Science General and Honours with Co-op option, with specializations including Artificial Intelligence, Network & Security, Multimedia, Software Engineering, Game Development, and Applied Computing. The School also offers an online Certificate of Applied IT, thesis-based Master’s and Doctoral programs, as well as a professional Master’s program in Applied Computing that includes an industry internship. The Bachelor of Information Technology is a newly approved program with multiple entry points such as direct entry from High School or after 2 or 3-year diploma from Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT). This program features cross-disciplinary learning by integrating studies in mathematics, statistics, and business courses with the required IT skills. This Teaching Intensive position is primarily for supporting the teaching needs of the Bachelor of Information Technology program.
The successful candidate must have:
- A PhD degree in Computer Science (or related field as deemed appropriate by the Appointments Committee) by the date of appointment;
- General post-secondary teaching experience in Computer Science, preferably at the university level;
- Experience in teaching Computer Science and Information Technology courses;
- Experience in teaching of both in-person and online (synchronous and/or asynchronous) classes;
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness, such as course outlines, teaching certification(s), course development, etc.; and
- Strong communication skills in English.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with mentoring and teaching in multicultural settings;
- Record of contribution to active and experiential learning practices such as lab work, field work, or other real-world experiences in or out of the classroom;
- Recent and relevant experience or engagement with industry;
- Demonstrated record of service to academic and professional communities; and
- Experience teaching large (>100) classes.
