The opportunity

May 2024 - August 2024

Do you want to get exposure to asset/liability management and portfolio construction while working with data modelling and visualization?

  • You will work with asset models and help develop analytic tools used by researchers to understand the impact of asset mix decisions

  • You will learn about asset classes and their risk and return characteristics

  • You will work with modern web-based technologies and architectures

Who you'll work with

  • Working in a team with quants and/or data scientists

  • The work is project based, with projects ranging from half a day to the full term

  • Immediate clients are the researchers using the tools and data you develop

  • Work location is Toronto head office in our hoteling work space

  • Hours are reasonably flexible with no additional travelling involved

What you'll do

  • Work with asset/liability model to determine the impact of changes in asset mix or economic assumptions

  • Extract data from Oracle database using SQL

  • Present data for audience consumption in Power BI

  • Review financial statements and compare reported data from different asset managers

What you'll need

  • Must have good understanding of a programming language

  • Must have familiarity with asset classes and their distinct characteristics

  • Must have proven mathematical background, particularly in statistics

  • Concentration in Mathematics, Statistics, Finance or related field

  • Previous experience working with data visualization is helpful

  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming is an asset

  • Knowledge of Python/SQL/C# are a plus

  • Understanding of financial statements is an asset

  • Previous work term experience preferred

  • Machine learning, AI projects and interests are a plus

  • Must be enrolled in 3rd / 4th year or related Master’s program

  • You must be enrolled in a co-op program or returning back to your studies after the work term is completed
