The Opportunity:
Our Calgary office is seeking an Intermediate Water Resources Engineer to join our Municipal Infrastructure team. We are seeking a motivated candidate who combines strong technical skills with willingness to learn project management and business development. The successful candidate will have experience in a variety of urban water resources projects including, but not limited to, municipal utilities (storm and sanitary sewers, water distribution), attenuation facilities (including Low Impact Development technologies) and transportation infrastructure drainage. Working knowledge of utility master planning and asset management would be an asset. Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated increasing levels of technical challenge and responsibility over their career.
The successful candidate will work in a team environment with the support of experienced senior and junior technical staff. Intermediate staff are expected to be self-starters with strong technical knowledge and familiarity with local municipal development processes. They must also support the growth of the business and support the development of younger staff. This will include project management and building client relationships. Suitable candidates will enjoy working in a team environment and bring strengths in oral and written communication.

A day in the life:
- Provide technical knowledge within a growing municipal engineering team.
- Support the project manager and/or undertake management of projects in water distribution, sanitary and storm sewers, site grading and drainage, municipal permitting, and approvals.
- Design storm water facilities such as storm ponds, roadways drainage, and underground storage tanks.
- Client liaison and relationship management.
- Communicate and work with other project team members that may be located in other offices.
- Occasional travel within Alberta may be required (less than 5%).
What you'll bring to WSP ...
- 6 to 9 years of experience in municipal engineering; experience on project work in Canada is an asset;
- Registered with or eligible for registration as a P.Eng. with APEGA;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with municipal engineering projects, including specific design and construction experience in water, sanitary and stormwater projects for both new project works and renewal and replacement of existing infrastructure systems;
- Strong analytical mind with desire to learn water resources modeling and municipal conveyance infrastructure design.
- Knowledge of modelling software such as PCSWMM, XPSWMM, WaterCAD or MIKE URBAN would be an asset.
- Proven track record in managing the design of municipal projects along with a history of developing client relationships.
