The Opportunity:

WSP E&I has a new opportunity for an Intermediate Hydrogeologist to join our Mining, Geo-Environment & Engineering group on a full-time basis based in Vancouver.

The selected candidate will support hydrogeology-related projects and proposal efforts with an emphasis on the mining industry in Canada. You will work directly with our senior hydrogeologist on challenging projects and be responsible for contributing to mentoring and supervision of junior staff, data analysis and interpretation, geochemical modeling, proposal development, and technical reporting. You will contribute to the growth of our hydrogeology team of professionals in Canada, while supporting our mine water and waste management projects.

In addition to strong technical skills, you will also have knowledge and experience with applicable legislation, regulations, guidelines, and standards within Canada, and demonstrate the successful management and delivery of projects, meeting WSP’s high standards for quality and client satisfaction. This will be utilized to provide outstanding client service and advisory solutions to help our clients solve complex problems

A day in the life:

  • Groundwater data analysis, field testing and assisting in groundwater modeling work (as an asset) as projects require.
  • Compilation, reduction, and analysis of water well testing or chemical data, proposal preparation, and reporting.
  • Conduct field investigations including drilling, core logging, monitoring well installations, slug test, aquifer testing programs, groundwater, surface water and soil sampling
  • Oversee drilling and excavation programs. Manage soil, groundwater and surface water quality data. Complete data analysis which may include hydraulic conductivity tests (slug test), pump tests Support in the preparation of groundwater and remediation reports.
  • Interpret analytical laboratory results
  • Perform data analysis and data visualization utilizing GIS, Surfer or other three-dimensional data-visualization software
  • Support writing of technical proposals and reports
  • Support Project Manager’s planning, execution, and delivery of hydrogeology-related projects.
  • Adhere to safe work practices and company/client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner

What you'll bring to WSP ...

  • University degree or diploma from a recognized institution with a specialty in hydrogeology, Earth Sciences, environmental engineering, or geoscience,
  • Minimum 5-8 years of consulting or industry experience in hydrogeology
  • Registration with EGBC or eligible to register as P.Geo. or P.Eng.
  • Basic understanding of aquatic geochemistry including e.g., ML/ARD, water quality, source term evaluation
  • Strong data manipulation abilities including experience with data management tools (i.e., Excel, EQuIS, Access) would be considered an asset
  • Technical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Strong relational skills within the team environment and with clients are essential
  • Strong organizational and communications skills
  • Willing to travel domestically, occasionally in remote locations, varying environments and inclement weather, sometimes with limited communications and logistical support
  • Unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License valid in the province of British Columbia
  • A satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy
  • Ability to safely and comfortably lift up to 50 pounds
  • Knowledge of mining related environmental practices
  • Demonstrated experience in working with teams to deliver work products in a timely fashion, ideally within a consulting environment
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • Demonstrated project management and technical skills would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of environmental assessment processes and permitting requirements would be considered an asset
  • Strong relational skills within the team environment and with clients are essential
  • Strong organizational and communications skills
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, and work independently
  • Experience in groundwater modeling using a. variety of modeling platforms (MODFLOW, FEFLOW. AQTESOLV, Leapfrog, etc.) would be considered an asset.
  • Willing to spend significant time at project sites
