Your Opportunity

We need an Intermediate Geotechnical / Civil Field Engineer on the TransMountain Pipeline project to provide support in our Geotechnical Construction Field Services role. The work would commence around September 2020. The project is expected to run through to late 2022. The project involves installation of approximately 1,147 km of pipeline with the Stantec Geotechnical team working on over 500 km of the project.

This is a contract role with potential to become permanent.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Geotechnical temporary works design and supervision
  • Excavations including support systems
  • Scoping geotechnical temporary works and explorations
  • Providing field logs to contractor and designers
  • Rail and utility crossing monitoring plans and field observations
  • Client interface and management with project team
  • General geotechnical quality assurance
  • Daily field reports for geotechnical scope
  • Road condition assessments
  • Trenchless crossing construction support
  • Assessment risks to existing assets

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Previous site construction experience (preference given to those with pipeline experience)
  • Prior design experience (temporary works design is preferred)
  • Knowledge of health and safety in a site construction role and Alberta OHS requirements
  • Proven communication skills
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Willing to work away from home (site teams work Monday to Saturday with Sundays off)

Education and Experience

Geotechnical Engineering (Civil or Geological) degree (Preferably M.Eng. or M.Sc.)

P.Eng. (Preferably Alberta)

8 years’ experience in construction and temporary works design

This is an excellent opportunity to work on an exciting and challenging construction project planned through to 2022.

The work environment will be a typical construction site office environment working with computers as well as frequent time spent in the field as pipeline construction progresses. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Safety equipment and clothing provided. Work truck provided for use in the field. Typical workdays will be 10 – 12 hours. Accommodation will be a hotel or serviced apartment depending on availability and work area locations. Regular rotations out from the project to return home are negotiable. Allowance/ expenses for travel to and from the project site will be paid, including travel time.
