Position purpose:
Reporting to Dr. Josephine Etowa, Director of CO-CREATH Lab (Collaborative Critical Research on Equity and Transformation in Health) and OHTN Research Chair in Black Women's HIV Prevention and Care, the incumbent has the primary responsibility for the execution of the basic investigative tasks of the research project(s) and contributing to the ongoing management, progress evaluation, and information dissemination relating to the project(s).
We are CO-CREATH Lab: the University of Ottawa’s Collaborative Critical Research for Equity and Transformation in Health (www.cocreath.com) Lab directed by Prof. Josephine Etowa, OHTN Research Chair in Black Women's HIV Prevention and Care. As a hub of researchers, trainees, and community partners, we work to unpack the complex determinants of health inequities, identify innovations, and create solutions to the challenges of providing high-quality health and health care to a diverse society.
The incumbent is an experienced Research Coordinator that will contribute to exceptional research, outreach, and community engagement to elevate our lab to the next level - transforming healthcare access for African, Caribbean, and Black Canadians in the Ottawa region. You will be responsible for leading daily research activities by communicating effectively with various stakeholder groups. Using your passion for community outreach, you will lead and organize various community events for participant recruitment purposes. Additionally, you will work in our amazing community partners to develop various knowledge mobilization tools (i.e. podcasts, digital stories, community presentations, webinars etc).
This is an opportunity for two (2) full-time positions for a 1-year contract. One position will be dedicated to oversee provincial projects with single study site. The second will be dedicated to oversee national projects with several multi-sites.
In this role, your responsibilities will include, among others:
- Conduct of Research Project: Performs on-site field research at local, regional and international levels. Undertakes day to day research activity within the overall agreed research program by preparing, setting up, conducting and recording the outcomes of data and information gathering activities, experiments and fieldwork. Collects qualitative and quantitative data (onsite, on-line, in the field). Administers research questionnaires and / or standardized tests to research subjects
- Data Analysis: Processes, organizes and summarizes data, reporting experiment results using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet or statistical software applications or program platforms.
- Organize and / or participate in information dissemination activities: Assists in the organization and implementation of research dissemination events including conferences, seminars and workshops.
What you will bring:
- Undergraduate degree in a related discipline; graduate degree is an asset.
- One to two (1 – 2) years experience in research positions.
- Advanced written and verbal skills in English or French. Bilingualism, spoken and written, is preferred.
- Familiarity with quantitative research methods, statistics and their applications.
- Familiarity with qualitative research methodologies and their applications.
- Experience with literature searches and retrievals using electronic database.
- Intermediate computer skills and experience using MS Office (Excel, Power Point, Word, Access).
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, to work under pressure, to effectively manage overlapping duties and to meet deadlines.
- Ability to attend to detail and display resourcefulness.
- Strong organisational, time management, coordination and facilitation skills.
- Excellent proficiency in English (spoken and written); French is an asset.
This position requires flexibility to travel outside of the region and work outside of normal office hours. Possibility for telework according to the University of Ottawa's telework policy (3 days on site and 2 days at home).
