Your opportunity
Due to our expanding business, British Columbia’s Transportation Group is seeking an experienced and talented Intermediate Bridge Design Engineer with strong design and analysis skills to join our team and work alongside engineering professionals who provide specialized engineering services in the bridge, road/highway, and transit sub-sectors.
Key responsibilities
- Preparing structural design calculations in accordance with applicable design codes (i.e., CSA-S6:19).
- Performing advanced structural analysis and designs for new bridges, retaining walls, and other transportation structures.
- Performing advanced structural analysis and designs for the renewal of existing structures.
- Reviewing conceptual design alternatives to develop innovative and cost-effective design solutions.
- Preparing technical specifications and BC MoTI Special Provisions.
- Providing guidance to CAD designers for drawing production.
- Providing assistance and guidance to junior engineers for the preparation of structural designs, reports, specifications and cost estimates.
- Performing internal Quality Control (QC) reviews and design checking for detailed design of bridges and other structures.
- Preparing cost estimates for conceptual and detailed design.
- Providing engineering services during construction including review of tender and contractor submissions, responding to requests for information, conducting Engineer’s Field Reviews.
- Preparing load rating calculations and assessments of existing structures.
- Assisting with preparing proposals, workplans, and fee estimates.
- Regularly collaborating with colleagues in other offices and different areas of expertise in an integrated and fast paced design environment.
- Leading inspections of existing structures and preparing condition assessment reports.
- Strategic transportation advisory services
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
As the ideal candidate you will possess the following minimum qualifications:
- BC MoTI past design experience an asset,
- Inspection qualifications and training an asset,
- Seismic design experience in British Columbia is preferred,
- Working knowledge and recent design experience using the BC MoTI Bridge Standards and Procedures Manuals is desired,
- Detailed design experience in steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete structures is essential, and some timber design experience is desired,
- Recent experience using specialized software such as, SAP2000, LARSA, SOFISTIK, or CSiBridge is in asset; working knowledge of AutoCAD an asset, and
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required in your interactions with the design team and clients and effective writing skills for reports and some proposal work.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (Master’s degree an asset),
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in BC or another province in Canada,
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in the design and analysis of highway bridges and other transportation structures (pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, large culverts, snow sheds, ferry docks and ramps, sign bridges etc.), with BC projects preferred,
Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
