Position Purpose:
The Quality Assurance Analyst ensures quality throughout the software development process while working on projects to deliver new computer application and modifications existing computer applications. The incumbent reviews project deliverables, design documents, and programming specification to verify quality standards.
This role contributes to the formulation and continuous improvement of software quality standards, methods, and tools for all software development and maintenance projects carried out within the department.
Typical Accountabilities:
Testing: Prepares specific business test cases. Reviews, and updates, develops and executes test cases and test scripts to fully assess if the solution meets the requirements presented according to existing test plans. Records results. Ensures test cases sufficiently cover all areas of business need and application functionality.
Development: Ensures quality throughout the software development process; proper quality checkpoints. Has authority to reject documents that do not meet standards. Develops complete test strategies for new software products and confirm testing before production.
Verification: Organizes activities designed to verify system requirements, system design and system code. Ensures the test plan will validate the application requirements are met. Develops strategies for client acceptance.
Logging: Finds, reproduces, isolates, logs, and reports defects as needed. Works closely with the development team(s) during the test design and test execution phases. Plans, designs, develops, implements and maintains processes for manual testing. Ensures that problems are logged quickly and accurately, and that "fixed" problems are verified and closed.
Project Management: In partnership with a project manager or senior programmer takes full responsibility for software testing to deliver new applications and modifications to existing applications. Plans project time requirements, resources requirements, and risk analysis.
Risk Analysis: Evaluates risks, in the preparation of the test plan and as the test execution progresses. Recommends risk assessment and confirms launch readiness for projects with substantial visibility or impact.
Implementation: Conducts post-implementation reviews to evaluate the software development process and make recommendation for improvement.
Documentation: Produces all documentation of the testing process, validation of software, strategies, and best practices. Records defects and reviews them with the project manager, and will contribute a defect analysis to the project closeout document.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
Essential Qualifications:
University degree in computer science or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a quality assurance role involving software testing.
Other Qualifications:
Strong understanding of database systems and the use of technology to satisfy business needs.
Experience with system development life cycle; including methodologies, prototyping and application development methodologies.
Experience writing manual test plans, test cases and reporting test results independently
High level of initiative, decisiveness and business acumen.
Organizational skills to prioritize work and meet multiple strict deadlines.
Ability to test application written in various languages.
Ability to communicate technical concepts in a non-technical manner.
Bilingualism – French and English (spoken and written).
