Position purpose:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Awards:
Determines the eligibility of students for various financial aid programs and, in particular, those whose funds come from the tuition fee increase and the Ontario Student Initiative Trust Fund. Analyzes and evaluates applications for assistance (loans, bursaries, work/studies, etc.), calculates the assistance to be received and carries out file reviews following the granting of these funds. Advises and informs students about financial assistance plan regulations and budgeting. Ensures that the confidentiality of files, eligibility criteria and timelines are respected. As part of the Work-Study Program provides information and consultation services to employers and students at the University of Ottawa.
In this role you will:
- Advise students, parents, academic stakeholders and the general public in person, by email or telephone, on available funding options to enable them to obtain optimal financial support.
- Evaluate student applications by analyzing their academic records, resumes and other supporting documents and determine eligibility against the terms of reference dictated by the donors. Justify denials and advise on options, if any.
- Manage student or prospective student applications for all academic divisions and ensure distribution to faculties, departments and scholarship committees. This includes managing the evaluation and submission process for nominated applications for provincial and national competitions.
- Ensure that the various databases containing the terms of reference for all scholarships are kept up to date so that applicants have the correct information in relation to the eligibility criteria and are not misled.
What you will bring:
- Post-secondary degree
- A minimum of 2 years of professional customer service experience as a resource person.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in file analysis, interpretation and explanation of complex regulations and procedures.
- Experience in inputting, analyzing and auditing student records.
- Experience in administrative writing.
- Demonstrated experience in the use of information management and database systems and various office software programs (e.g., client management system, external departmental database systems, student information system, etc.).
- Knowledge of post-secondary education programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels and applicable regulations.
- Knowledge of granting agency, internal, and departmental scholarship programs.
- Ability to memorize and apply a variety of regulations.
- Organizational skills, ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills while ensuring confidentiality of information.
- Attention to detail.
- Bilingualism (oral and written).
Bilingualism: French and English (spoken and written); to be considered for this position, candidates must be rated at the Low Advanced proficiency level or higher for both oral comprehension and reading comprehension in their second official language. The rating is determined by a proficiency test designed by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute.
