Within the In Situ Resources Team, we have multiple opportunities for you to gain valuable experience in the field of subsurface engineering. The successful candidate will obtain a position as a Production Engineering Student supporting our Firebag asset.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Support, compile and analyze the variable frequency drive information with the purpose of finding leading metrics, allowing us to identify issues with electrical submersible pump performance and to minimize the number of well trips along with extending the life of the pump
  • Review the operating strategies and provide analysis on the impacts on production and energy efficiency
  • Provide in-depth analysis of operating data to recommend efficient operating envelopes
  • Support projects in an effort to build the right digital tools to improve well availability and maximize production

Must-Haves (Minimum Requirements):

  • Current enrollment in a formal co-op/internship program in a bachelors or graduate engineering program at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term
  • (Attach your transcripts with your application and indicate your work term availability)
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Outstanding social skills that enable you to build strong and positive relationships within diverse groups
  • A continuous improvement mindset that enables you to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace
  • Broad understanding of time series analysis, regression analysis and empirical modelling
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Work experience in the oil and gas industry is considered an asset
  • Previous data analytics experience. If you are enrolled in a discipline that specializes in data sciences or if you have experience in the fields of automation, coding, statistics, or surveillance by exception techniques, please clearly indicate this and describe your qualifications in your application

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • This is a 4 or 8 month work term starting in September 2019
  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Work hours will be Monday - Friday (40 hour week)
